I figure that we can make individual topics for games as we see fit, but for now we can just discuss our thoughts on everything in this one topic.
So yeah, lots of stuff to talk about.
Super Mario 3D World: The newest 3D Mario platformer is more or less a sequel to Super Mario 3D Land, which, I'll admit, I'm not *craaaaazy* about. Still, the initial disappointment of this not being something totally new has pretty much worn off, and I think it'll be an excellent game just as 3D Land was. This also looks a helluva lot more original, with new characters and bosses and stuff. It also apparently has a different story, because - gasp - Princess Peach is now playable for the first time in 3D. I'm really excited about the 4-player aspect of the game, as I've never really played a good 3D multiplayer platformer and I hope that this game will revolutionize 3D multiplayer. I'm still skeptical as to how well the game will do with four people cramped in one screen, but I'm hopeful.
Also, the Cat Suit looks adorable and fun.
Oh, and the title is ridiculously stupid.
Mario Kart 8: I was completely blown away by the trailer. Really, Mario Kart has never looked so promising. Antigravity as a gimmick is a fantastic idea for a racing game; the possibilities for zany new track designs have expanded tremendously. The graphics also look stunning, and they're SO much better than the Vaseline-smeared blehness we got in MKWii. I'm also psyched that my other favorite MK gimmick, air gliding, has been brought back, although motorbikes can go jump off a cliff. But seriously, I cannot get over how impressed I am with this. Can't wait to play it.
Pokemon X & Y: FAIRY TYPE WHAT. That is all.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze: A lot of people seem to be disappointed that this turned out to be Retro's "big secret game," but being the shameless platforming fan that I am, I couldn't be happier. Anyway, I'm really happy with the direction they went with this game. The new viking villains are really cool; they fit in with Donkey Kong's island theme, and having snow- and ice-based villains is a really fresh twist. I could take or leave the new underwater levels, but the new dynamic-camera sections look absolutely awesome. Barrel-blasting and mine cart-riding look to be even more frantic and extreme than they have been in the past. And finally, having Dixie as a third playable character with her own unique abilities is just icing (no pun intended) on the already-tasty cake.
Yoshi's New Island: Meh. I'm happy we're getting a new traditional-styled YI game, but nothing about this game stands out to me. Well, except for the disappointingly gross-looking watercolor visuals. I'm way more excited about the Yarn Yoshi game for the Wii U, but unfortunately, we didn't see any of that today.
Super Smash Bros.: Aaaaand last but certainly not least is Smash Bros. I'm pretty sure my jaw dropped when they got around to showing the Wii U version. Seriously, the game looks mind-numbingly gorgeous. The 3DS version is no slacker either, with its stylish cel-shaded look. A bit disappointed that only two Newcomers have been revealed, but given that those two are the Animal Crossing Villager (who makes himself look surprisingly badass) and Mega Man, I think I'll be okay. I'm also a little bummed that we didn't get a proper title for the game yet, but overall, it's shaping up to look extremely amazing.
