So, since it's now canon that the Koopalings aren't Bowser's children...just who the heck are they?
Nephews and niece? Adopted? Cousins, maybe?
Discuss.

I'm gonna stick with the step children theory. It give Bowser a reason why he'd be looking after them and still allows the koopalings to refer to him as their father.

Well I'm going to be stubborn and say they are still Bowser's children, canon or not.

I'm with PDoogan on this one. Even if the Koopalings may not be Bowser's biological children, he may still have raised them as his own. At least, until Bowser Jr. showed up.

I'm just going with the fact that they're members of his species that may or may not be directly related to him and have been promoted to high positions in his army.

I think that since they are members of Bowser's sub-species (which I call Royal Koopa) they must be closely related to him, especially considering that we have seen so few others like him... I've never been more tempted (or rather, tempted at all) to reject the validity of Miyamoto's words, but I must accept the fact that the Koopalings are not Bowser's Children... PDooganI have to agree with you. The Koopalings may not be Bowser's biological children, but they are his (step-)children nonetheless (I was actually raised by my grandparents but was blissfully unaware of this until I was eight or nine years old, so as far as I'm concerned they are my parents).

So they're siblings but not Bowser's kids.
I'm gonna go the standard cartoon route and say they're his nephews and niece.
