And in other news, Mario and Luigi do NOT have a last name, and Dr. Mario is NOT an actual doctor. www.screwattack.com/news/koopalings-are-not-related-bowserOn a very unrelated note: sorry for forgetting this place. I'm actually replaying every main series Mario game and Mariologizing right now. I promise I'll be back eventually.

............. Well.........as much as I disagree with that...I suppose you can't argue with facts.... *mutters to herself* Makes sense though. The Koopalings were never said to be Bowser's children in the Japanese games - they were both called "Little Bowsers" and "Bowser's Minions", but nothing directly saying they are blood-related. They are definitely the same species however.

Yeah, I guess.
And if you want to get technical, none of them really resemble him much anyway.

Yeah, I guess. And if you want to get technical, none of them really resemble him much anyway. They all have a perfectly round shell, while Bowser's and Jr.'s are more turtle-like. They also have weird birthmarks (all differents too), and one of them doesn't have the same skin color as the others. I guess this clears that problem then. Here's my completely baseless theory now: it's a Koopa Kingdom rule that there must be 8 "big" Koopas (Bowser's species) at the top of the tribe. 1 of them must be the king and must be older than the others, while the 7 others must be the tribe's highest elite soldiers, and army generals. They must all have a single child, who will continue their role once they're old enough (as in, around 10), while the 7 soldiers retire to leave it to their children.

Or it might just be that those 7 are the only ones of their species that were willing to join Bowser's army. Armored koopas seem to be a rather rare species, which would explain the small number.

You know how I feel about retcons. So how do I look at this? Well, I don't think it was ever stated in Japanese canon that the Koopalings were his children, so maybe Shigeru was just stating the Japanese canon. Then again, is isn't a stretch at all to imagine that the Koopalings and Bowser Jr. come from different "sources." Maybe the Koopalings aren't his biological children. Maybe they were created by Magikoopa magic? But he still raised them? Or clones? Or is Bowser Jr. a clone? Meh, the origin of Bowser's children/child is one of the biggest mysteries of the Marioverse that will never be completely resovled, and I kind of like it that way. Just a big, eternal mystery.

Waaait a minute... What if Bowser is the koopalings STEP-father? Jr. and the koopalings could share a mother but have different fathers! That would explain why theyre all refered to as Bowser's kids sometimes.
...I just remembered why I love mariology X)

To be fair NoA kind of took their own creative liberties with some Mario stuff because they had very little to work with. But yeah even if the Koopalings aren't his children, they still could very well be related seeing as there dont seem to be very many of Bowser's species.

Wait a minute, were the Super Mario Adventures comics originally written in Japanese? Because in that comic, the Koopalings blatantly refer to Bowser as their father. Does anybody know if the Japanese text exists? I'd love to see how they refer to Bowser in that language.

Excellent, Unknown Beta User! Where did you find that? So, does anyone know someone who knows Japanese? EDIT: Whoa, found some other strips!

My crazy fan theory: They're his nephews and niece. Still related, but not his offspring. That would also explain why Bowser Jr. got so much precedence over the Koopalings for so long.
Lemmy's Land's probably going up in smoke right now...

Lemmy's Land is pretty much dead (well the site is), the forum hasn't said much about it.
