Indeed. The koopalings have always been Bowser's children. As for Junior, I don't know why he is seperated from the others and the only one to get the spotlight in certain games, etc. But I don't consider Junior to be a kooplaing and the original seven are Bowser's only true children IMO.

Bowser Jr. is definitly one of Bowser's children. Just play through Super Mario Sunshine, just about every time Junior talks, he mentions that he is Bowser's son.

Not that it counts, but the cartoons are just the same when only one or two koopalings get selected for certain missions, etc. So on that basis, that does make it better and not insinuating Bowser only cares about Junior.

Bowser is EVIL, you can't really compare his parenting techniques to regular ones.

I don't think Bowser is all evil. Bowser is also a loving parent who cares about his kids and also his troops to some extent too. He also has good qualities too around Peach sometimes and in most of the RPG games.
It's not all black and white. There are grey areas too.

It all depends on the game. In the mainstream games he tends to be more evil, but in the RPGs he either is an Anti Hero or the exact same Anti Hero personality when given a crap ton of power.

Well come to think of it, Mario isn't really all innocent either. All Bowser seems to do is kidnap people while Mario slaughters many enemies. As far as I know, Bowser hasn't killed or attempted to kill anyone except for the Mario Brothers. Mario, on the other hand, has killed thousands of Troopas, Goombas, etc.

And Bowser did kill every, eh, Bleck-ed Koopa and Goomba in Super Paper Mario (also Goombas and X-Nauts in Paper Mario 2). However, it is true Mario has a much bigger kill count than Bowser. I don't believe Bowser is evil. He doesn't care a lot about other people suffering, except when it's en masse, sure. He was a threat to the whole planet in Paper Mario, and to the whole world in the SMG games, sure (but he didn't attack anyone, aside from a part of Toad Town) (and he's goofy in SMG2). He's actually a nice guy (see Mario Party 3), he's just really selfish, violent and dumb. And badass. And that's why we love him.

His troops seem to worship and love him in Bowser's Inside Story. I can't comment for SPM and PM2 as I never played them. But the koopas do seem to always come back to life as the cutscenes in SMW seem to imply the koopalings are dead but then come back again years later.

In PM and PM2, it's clear Bowser's troops see him as the most epic guy in the world, and they're free to do whatever they want and goof around (Bowser himself even participates sometimes). They also think Bowser is just being overprotective to Peach. They worship him and love him but it's out of respect, not because they follow the same ideas or fear him or are evil or whatever.
In SPM, Bowser kills every traitor that crosses his way, but what motivates him to beat Bleck is to save his brainwashed troops (leading to think they'd come back to life anyway) and because Peach is along the team. So he likes his troops too. Also, as soon as he went on the adventure, the troops that were with him in the Bitlands threw a party. Seems like they are really laid-back, and may be tired of Bowser's orders sometimes.
But really, I think Bowser's a nice guy, he just has selfish plans and has his own ways of executing them.

Bowser is just your regular awesome anti hero guy who can get a little carried away sometimes. I can't wait to see if they expand on this personality more in the next Paper Mario.

Before he was given the personality he has today, I thought Bowser was like a cross between a fairy tale dragon and Kim Jong-Il. Dark Land in Super Mario Bros 3 had lots and lots of tanks, soldiers, guns, and ships, but there is basically no infrastructure outside of the castle, the military bases and the traps, and the land in general is inhospitable and lacks the resources needed to begin the sort of empire that could satisfy Bowser. Basically just a volcanic North Korea.

I consider the cartoons to be canon, but if there are discrepancies I tend to look at what holds a higher canonicity. For example, King Bowser Koopa's character design. His appearance in the cartoons is based on his original Super Mario Bros. sprite. The cartoon character designers didn't really have much to go on. Doesn't mean that the cartoon stories never happened, just that the original source is the original source. Kind of like when you tell a story to a friend and that friend retells the story, some details may get a little blurry. So I think of the Koopa Troopas in the same way. Especially since they had more accurate character models in the Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World cartoons.
