Hmm, well, I couldn't find an introduction thread, nor a subforum for such things, but I noticed one other user made an introduction thread on this forum. So, I do suppose it's the proper thing to do.
But in other matters, greetings to everyone! My name is Cyphir(the exclusion of an 'e' for an 'i' does indeed have a story). MarioBro364 and kingkoopa both referred me to the forum, so thanks goes to them.
As for a little about myself, I highly enjoy a variety of creative endeavors. From drawing, to voice acting, to managing a role-play, to producing radio dramas. However, my most deep passion lies in writing. Seeing characters come to life, worlds be constructed from just your imagination, and deep plots weave themselves is an absolute blast. I love it. Often, it's more fun than anything!
I've written my first novel already, and this probably pertains heavily to the forum. Why? Well, because it is a novel adaption of the Mario storyline. But, there is a story to how it came to be. You see, every November, there is a contest by the name of National Novel Writing Month(fondly named NaNoWriMo by its participants). The goal? To write a 50,000 word novel in the span of the month. The prize? Self-satisfaction, and a novel that you wrote. To those familiar with NaNoWriMo, it's an event full of excitement, creativity, caffeine, and occasionally heavy dollops of dread. Most of all, though, it's a blast.
Anyway, while I had been a novelist, I had not actually completed a work(excluding a radio drama script), and was interested enough in the concept. It sounded fun, and would provide the opportunity to finish a novel.
I originally had an idea for a novel that parodied all things Humphrey Bogart and film noir, but there was one other concept that popped in my mind. I began entertaining the idea of a Mario Brothers novel adaption, and kept considering all the possibilities. Scenes and character moments would pop into my head, and it just seemed too good to pass up. Eventually, I just decided to go ahead with it. After all, the contest was for fun, and this would flex my writing muscles as well as my first idea. Well, that, and I wanted to write it.
Writing it is a story on its own, but I went on to finish the month with 54k words, and two weeks later completed the novel at 90k words. Super Mario Brothers: Journey of a Kingdom was my first completed novel, and I would never trade the experience for anything.
I learned so much from it, both on what to do, and what to improve on(*cough* fewer commas...), and the critique I've received from those who have read it has been priceless. In fact, it was through MarioBro364 and kingkoopa's critiques that I even discovered this forum.
People have already been asking for a sequel, and I'm hoping to perhaps do that this year's NaNoWriMo.
If anyone is interested in reading it, then I'd be up for sending it through PM's. I'm hesitant to post it in bulk on a forum/site, though. I really value critique and comments from people who read my work. I fear that placing it all on a forum would mainly garner comments like "that was really cool. Plz make more." or "eh, it was okay." Not to say I expect a massive critique from every reader, but at least their thoughts.
That said, I will be posting the Prologue in the Fan Fiction section in order for people to get a feel for the story. Those who are interested and want to read more are absolutely free to send me a PM, though!
Well, I do believe I've rambled enough. Hopefully, I've not wasted your time, and I suppose I'll see you all around the forum!
