I don't know about you guys, but I wasn't too happy with Mario Party 8. Too few boards (many of which weren't all that great), too few good minigames, and weird graphics, amongst other things. I mean, it was kinda fun, but... eh, it's probably the worst MP, at least in my opinion.
Judging from the trailer, though, Mario Party 9... actually looks quite good. A lot of the minigames look like they're based around running and jumping and stuff, and the ones that aren't don't look bad. Also, the graphics look like they take some style tips from NSMBWii and SMG2, which make the game look a lot cleaner and Mario-ish. And, well... I dunno, the whole thing just looks a lot more put-together than MP8 and other titles in the series.
So yeah, discuss speculation and your hopes and stuff. I personally hope that they balance out the number of "gimmicky" boards (like buying out windmills, stealing stars from other players, reaching the end of the course, random boxes, etc.) with the number of classic-style, "hunt-the-Star" boards, with maybe 4 of each. On a more minor note, I hope they bring back just plain ol' normal items again, and ditch the capsules/orbs/candy/whatever.

Wait, you've seen footage of minigames? Linkage please. Anyways, yeah Mario Party 8 was kind of a flop of a game. It did have a few good minigames, but the whole Wii motion stuff was just tacked on there and made the game not feel like a regular Mario Party. I was really glad to see Hammer Bro and Blooper added to the game however, and I hope they are in Mario Party 9 when it comes out. About the gimmicky boards, the boards have always had gimmicks and that won't change any time soon. While some can get too gimicky, (I don't like the whole there are 3 stars and you have to guess which one is real thing) Koopa's Tycoon Board was my favorite Board in Mario Party 8, and I really like the whole buying whatever with your money to secure stars. However, I would like there to be at least 2 fairly normal boards with not too many gimmicks on them that have nice scenery and are fun to play on. Items, I really don't care if they are in capsules, crates, barrels, or party balls, as long as they do the same thing, I don't mind. I'd like it if the story actually had something to do with the MK this time around...

I gave up on Mario Party after 5. I just seems like more of the same thing over and over. And it seems like one of the AI players always ends up getting one more star then me like, 2 turns before the game ends.
That being said, I must admit I loved the super duel mode in MP5 and the duel boards in MP3.

I'll admit, 6, 7, and 8 weren't the best games. But all of them had something in them that made it a bit worthwhile. For example, each of those games had at least 8 good minigames which were fun to play over and over.

I gave up on Mario Party after 5. I just seems like more of the same thing over and over. That's because..........it's Mario Party? Now, there doesn't seem to be any more new info on this game lately. No release date in sight either.

We've received a bunch of information about this game since it's been announced, and one of the biggest tidbits is that there's no "Classic" mode, only the vehicle mode; there are no Stars or Coins, only "Mini-Stars." I wasn't too crazy about this at first, but the new gameplay mode has really grown on me, and it seems like it'll definitely freshen up the series quite a lot. The fact that everyone moves together means that even when you're not playing, you're still participating in the grand scheme of things. I really like how boards are sort of reflective of typical Mario adventures now, with an A-to-B design, fortresses halfway through each board, and bosses and mini-bosses. Also, the minigames seem much more fun than they have been in past games, with a larger emphasis on platforming and direct control over your character. Even the graphics seem bright and detailed; they're really Galaxy-esque.
It looks like fun stuff; much better than the "meh"-ness that was everywhere in Mario Party 8.

Yeah I was kind of upset by there not being any individual moving either, but the boards don't really seem to be cyclical this time around so I figure it would get redundant with 4 people taking the same short path. But I don't get how this will make the game competeitive. With 4 people moving at the same pace it makes me feel like everything will be a group effort on the board and the only way to get ahead is to be good at the minigames. (Not much of a problem since the minigames usually aren't that hard). But with only one factor to be able to get ahead? Doesn't sound much like a board game to me. I'll still end up getting it though...

It sounds a little more interesting then the last few games, but I still haven't gotten MK7 yet, so I have my priorities before I go out and buy this.

No individual moving = a lot of strategy, because you must do so that you get Mini-Stars, you make others get Mini-Ztars, and you manage to cooperate for special events. It's REALLY nice, and seriously refreshes the series.
Also, you can unlock "zodiacs ressembling Mario characters". And there are 12 characters in the game. Are we going to learn these characters' signs ? (Mario is definitely Libra, Luigi fits more Virgo - he IS technically born a bit before Mario, and we don't know when does YI actually takes place other than "around autumn") (also, I'm pretty sure the Mario series does support astrology - just look at Merlon) It'd be pretty nice, and help determinate characters' birth date too.
I also love how it's actually based on the Mario universe this time. Locations from Mario Party 4 to 8 could have been in any series, really.

You could technically do this already if you want to used the Japanese release date of the game when the character was first in introduced.
I know the original donkey kong came out on Japan in June, but I don't know the exact date.

So if you do that...Bowser and Peach are Virgos (SMB came out in Japan in September), Luigi is a Gemini (there aren't good dates on Mario Bros. but the date I have is June 1), and Mario and Cranky Kong are Tauri (June 1 in Japan, but its unofficial debut was April 22 in the US, first worldwide). Are you sure this is a good idea?

^ You might also point out that Yoshi's Island happens around Fall, and that Mario's personality fits that of a Libra's while Luigi is closer to Virgo, which would mean Yoshi's Island starts around September 21. Neither YI, DK or MB were released on that date though.
Okay, maybe I'm explaining it badly.

Well, the full roster has been released, and we actually went DOWN in characters. Only 3 new ones with two of those 3 being unlockable. If you were liked the playable minion characters, sucks for you because most of them got demoted to unplayable bosses or side characters. But on the bright side, Koopa Troopa is finally playable and the two other characters are amazing additions. I don't know if anyone actually cares about Mario Party spoilers (lol caring about Mario Party spoilers) though, so I won't say who these two new characters are.

Got the game. No zodiacs, just constellations. Ugh.
Oh well. Maybe we can still make out the characters' approximative birth dates by analyzing their personalities. But that doesn't matter to me anymore now. :I
However, we get to see how is the MK's night sky like.
Also, it would seem that Mini Stars are floating objects in the sky that look like stars, seem from the ground. Star-like floating objects have already been witnessed in previous games - Paper Mario had floating star-shaped objects too (but those were much bigger), and Mario Kart 7 had these in Rainbow Road too (although much smaller). And you got stars of different colors in the SNES version of SMB, and other stuff... Basically, star-shaped objects in the sky are not a new concept.
I theorize their point is to make sure the sky is always star-filled, even during cloudy nights, so that the Mushroom Kingdom's people (who are quite religious, their religion worshipping stars) would always worship them. So I'd guess it's the Star Spirits' way of making sure people always feel protected, or don't start panicking and maybe go to Star Haven to cause troubles.
Also, Bob-Omb Factory is, according to Bowser in the French version at least, where "[they] prepare they plans everyday" and is a secret factory. It also seems that (artifical) Bob-Ombs are being constructed here. This is against the theory according to which Wario Factory would be where artifical Bob-Ombs are made, too. Which then brings up the question of WHY does Wario Factory produce Bob-Ombs...
