Hello everyone, I'd like to start the official Super Mario 3D Land thread. First off, now that Nintendo has given us an official name for the game, along with Mario Kart 7, what do you think of it? I personally believe that Super Mario Land 3D rolls off the tongue better, but I guess the name is okay. Please share your thoughts.

Super Mario Land 3D doesn't make sense.
Super Mario 3D Land is Super Mario in a 3D Land. Like how Super Mario Galaxy was Super Mario in the Galaxy, etc.
That looks like to be the best Mario game ever. THIS is what I wanted 3D Mario games to be. This is the game I've been waiting since I'm born. Thank you, Nintendo.

From what I've seen of the game, it doesn't really seem to have anything in common with the original Mario Land. I still liked Super Mario 3DS better.
The game itself looks like a combination of SMB3 and SM64 which is an automatic win in mu book.

Honestly it looks a bit linear, but that means we will be getting a 3-D New Super Mario Bros which sounds awesome.

KoopalmierI'm sorry, but Super Mario 3D Land just doesn't sound right. Imagine if they called OoT3D, "The Legend of 3D Zelda: Ocarina of Time," it's just not right. PDooganWell, it IS a Super Mario title for a handheld, just like Super Mario Land 1&2, plus it has "Land" in it's name, so it was obviously meant to have some connection to the Super Mario Land games, and, not counting Wario Land, it would be the third in the series. So if they called it Super Mario Land 3D, then it could have a double meaning (as it's both the 3rd game, and it features Stereoscopic 3D graphics). Then the Super Mario series would be organized into sub-series: Super Mario Bros. (on Consoles), and Super Mario Land (on Portables), nice and clean, New Super Mario Bros. being standalone. Oh well, I guess I'm just being nit-picky, eh?

I doubt this has anything to do with Super Mario Land since Bowser is around.

I know that it technically doesn't have anything to do with Super Mario Land other than the name, but really, neither did Super Mario Land 2 (Tatanga made a cameo appearance as a boss, but who's to say that couldn't happen in Super Mario 3D Land). I'm just saying that they are both portable titles, and that they both have "Super Mario" and "Land" in the name.

Also, so far the only confirmed Power-Ups are Super Mushroom, Fire Flower, and Tanooki Leaf, so what other Power-Ups would you like to see make an appearance? I think that the Poison Mushroom, Snow Flower, and Frog Suit (Mushroom?) would be great for this game! The Snow Flower could have the same effect as the one from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and the Frog Suit (Mushroom?) could have a Spring Mushroom-like effect when on solid ground, but would make Mario swim faster and give home greater maneuverability when under water. Although, what I really want to see is the Cape Feather, but that wouldn't work very well for the gameplay style, especially considering they already have the Tanooki Leaf. What do you guys think?

I heard other old powerups will be returning, so hopefully Hammer Suit will be in there somewhere. Tanooki suit had better be able to fly though. If not, then add the Cape Feather and make it only able to fly.

You DO know it's not "Super Mario 3D: Land" but "Super Mario: 3D Land" right ? Also, it may be a handheld title with "Land" in the name, but then let's say the 3DS is a DS or the Game Boy Advance is a Game Boy. And SML2 is very related to SML1. Both plots are directly related. Anyway... I'm hoping for the Hammer Bro Suit to return. It'd work very well in 3D. Maybe the Mini Mushroom too.

Hey, the official logo's out now. Personally, I think it looks great. It's really retro-feeling, and very evocative of the original Super Mario World logo with its colorfulness and chunkiness. I'm still not a huge fan of the name, but it feels a bit more comfortable now that we have an actual logo. I think that the "Super" should be white, but oh well... still looks pretty great. Anyway, I'm really hoping for the Ice Flower to make a return. You know, the NSMBWii version where you threw snowballs and froze enemies and stuff. It's probably my favorite Mario powerup ever due to its versatility, and its a great opposite to the Fire Flower. SMG's Cloud Flower was pretty cool, too; being able to create your own platforms felt right at home in a Mario game. I do hope they include a set of new items, though; this has been a concern of mine since it has been announced that more "retro" powerups will be in the game without any mention of new powerups. I mean, retro powerups are cool, but I want to see new stuff, too. Stuff that'll really contribute to and challenge the awesomeness of the current set of Mario powerups.

Technically, any old powerups showing up will be new power ups since they will probably work differently in 3-D

Yes, I'm aware, but the point that it sounds flipped still stands.
No, the only way one conclusion that a 3DS is a DS would be, "They have a similar title ('DS') and are similar in nature (Dual Screens and Form Factor) so they must be the same thing," but if that's not my premise. Rather, my premise states, "They have a similar title ('Super Mario' and 'Land') and are similar in nature (Super Mario on a Handheld) so the latter obviously is a reference to the former."
Only in that Wario took over Super Mario Land while Mario was in Sarasaland.
Yes, the Hanmer Suit (Mushroom?) would make an awesome 3D Power-Up, indeed!

Actually, now that I think about it, there already was a Super Mario Land 3. The Super Mario Land series evolved into the Wario Land Series. Why would they decide to bring it back when Wario has become so popular?

Why would they decide to bring it back when Wario has become so popular? Although the name of the official name of the game is Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, that would be like saying Nintendo couldn't make a game like, "New Super Mario World" because Yoshi has become so popular. It is generally accepted that the Wario series, like Donkey Kong and Yoshi before it, is a separate entity from the Mario series. I personally just think they should have either called the game "Super Mario Land 3D," or just "Super Mario 3D." Also guys, I'm super pumped for this game!!! It's right up there with The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and The Elder Scrolls IV: Skyrim as my "Most Anticipated Game of the Year."

I've actually warmed up to the name, now. Even if it doesn't quite roll off the tongue, it has this - I know I keep throwing around this word - retro feel that totally evokes memories of the old days. You know, the days when Mario romped across cozier Lands and Worlds instead of taking on grand Galaxies. I like it better than Super Mario 3D/3DS, anyhow, and Super Mario Land 3D just doesn't really make sense. And the new logo... ...is just gorgeous. But anyway, I hope the game strays away from the "themed worlds" thing that's basically a platformer standard now. It's not a bad thing, but one thing I absolutely LOVE from the Galaxy games is that they each had a variety of level archetypes within a single world. I mean, World 3 alone in SMG2 had a sky level, a spooky level, and a snow level, amongst other things. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I hope they introduce a ton of variety throughout the whole game. It looks promising so far, as we know that World 2 is thankfully not a desert and that World 3 has at least one sky-type athletic level.

Did I just see Boomerang Mario? OH. MY. GOD. All Mario has to do now if be fat and he will have a power-up based on every variety of Hammer Bro.
inb4 this is only going to be used in the Zelda themed level as a way to reach far off keys.
