It's insanely over the top, and about as fanon related as possible, but here's a possibility for why Bowser's Castle/Peach's Castle/etc is always broken into constantly and why the security never does it's job.
Answer? The sole security company in the Mushroom World is Sigil Securities, owned by Carpaccio from Wario Master of Disguise.
But said company, from what the descriptions say (it's an implied organisation), seems to be rather corrupt. Hence it makes sense to assume:
That as follows, the security is deliberately left as poor quality, because the place is targeted by thieves soon afterwards. Bit like a corrupt version of 'to catch a thief', with actual criminals being the ones who design the security system, and leave an opening for themselves.
Carpaccio says that the slogan of the company is "We're hard at work watching your back... that way it's easier to pick your pocket."
Why would this explain anything?
Answer:
1. Most of this organisation are likely human, or near enough human. Hence why many bases can be oh so conveniantly navigated by Mario and co, because Mario and friends have similar abilities to the design team.
2. They don't want the systems to be too good. I mean, what do you need a company for if they install a system and it never goes wrong in the future? You don't. They know that, and hence leave open the possibility of Bowser or Mario or Fawful or whoever being able to get past the security and pretty much destroy the place. Think of it this way:
A - Bowser blasts Peach's Castle to pieces to capture Peach, goes back to Dark Land
B- Mario and co destroy seven castles, a few airship fleets, tanks, boats, space stations and various other things in their path to get to Bowser's Castle
C- Mario and co tear Bowser's Castle to pieces going after Bowser, and eventually blow up the whole building. Or in New Super Mario Bros Wii and Yoshi's Island, Bowser himself accidentally knocks it down.
D- You get a whole bunch more million dollar contracts for security and castle building. Relative peace ensures for about a week, the cycle repeats, more easy cash.
Meanwhile, you install half a dozen steel spiked pillars, modern weapons and stuff, and Bowser declares it too much work, and away goes your future business.
Indeed, said company even apparently makes futuristic tech and weapons, according to Master of Disguise. Very easy to become a supervillain supplier with that stuff.
Of course, the character was originally a TV show character in universe, but hey, such scenarios were already overcome by Wario, Captain Syrup and Rudy the Clown on various occasions. Why go to Mushroom World? Why not, the world in the TV show doesn't quite have the same potential to make money, and it even has what can be seen as a police force. But Mushroom World is anarchy, anything bar attacking Mario/Luigi/Peach/Yoshi goes generally ignored, and they don't even have an army on one side.
So, thoughts on my random sort of 'theory'?
