Idea for a tabletop/fanfic that I'm developing...

I don't think that I've ever mentioned this before, but I'm a regular player of Dungeons & Dragons and other various tabletop, pen & paper role-playing games. It's quite fun, if I do say so myself.

So, I figured "What the heck?" and, using an altered and personally customized version of the d20 system, I decided to start developing a Tabletop RPG based off of the Nintendoverse.

But, I didn't just stop at that. After much deliberation, I decided it would make for a pretty interesting fanfiction as well. So, I'm thinking about working on that pretty soon as well (while I take a little break on "Chronicles of the Mushroom Kingdom" and let some more ideas come to me ).

So, the official title of the tabletop RPG is "Nintendo Legends - A Super Smash Bros. Roleplaying Adventure" (as you can tell by the little logo I made for it, pictured below) and the fan-fic will probably just be called "Nintendo Legends" .

The story so far is thus:
- You are an agent working for the Network of Extra-dimensional Security (N.E.S.), a high-tech peace-keeping police-like entity. Using The Warp Zone, you travel from Nintendo World to Nintendo World, righting wrongs and maintaining order.

- There are 5 main races that the N.E.S. recruits from the various realms of the Nintendoverse. They are: Humans, Hylians, Cornerians, Toads, and Waddle Dees.

- The N.E.S. has high-tech weaponry and gadgets at its disposal. Some of these items include: the Beam Sword, the Zapper, the Super Scope, the Power Glove, and R.O.B. units.

- All of the big, bad Nintendo villains have formed an alliance and are planning to conquer the entire Nintendoverse (you know, the typical motive for most bad guys). They plan on doing so by commanding a mysterious and powerful race of shadowy demons known as the Minus Legion (I decided to not use the Subspace Army, and opted to use evil entities of my own making). Little do they know that the Minus Legion don't truly answer to them, and have motives of their own.


*In the fan-fic, the protagonist is going to be Kevin Keene (named after the main character of the old Captain N cartoon), a rookie who has just been drafted into the N.E.S. His R.O.B. unit is nicknamed Duke (after Captain N's dog).

A multiversal game sounds pretty cool, but you'll have to be careful with technology removing limitations that give various worlds their flavor. A Power Suit could cause a lot of damage in the Mushroom Kingdom with its distinctive shortage of ranged weapons - let alone a whole Arwing!

Stuff like the Power Suit won't ever end up in the Mushroom Kingdom. But, I see what you mean. Thanks for the advice.

You know, if there's references to Captain N and the Subspace Emissary is involved, you may as well drop the "Super Smash Bros." from the title. Unless the characters are trophies and are limited to their abilities and personalities as depicted in the Smash World, there's not much of a need for it.

I heart Tabletop RPGs, so this definitely interests me. Honestly, this seems to have more possibilities for adventures than something set solely in the Marioverse, IMO.

As a side note, I don't think Cornerian is the best choice for the primary race of Star Fox, given how Corneria is a major power, but the primary race lives all over the galaxy, not just there. No idea what else to call them, though.

@ DINOSAUR: You're saying that if the Subspace Emissary is involved, I should drop the "Super Smash Bros." title... That doesn't make any sense.

@ The_Cat: Yeah, but "Cornerian" is my way of referring to all of the anthropomorphic animals in the Lylat System. Calling them "Furries" would just make everything uncomfortable... *shudders*

Oh, I see. Yeah, it's not.

But, certain aspects from Super Smash Bros., such as the Beam Sword, the Master Hand, and even some of the characters attacks will be carried over. So, I think that still warrants using the "Super Smash Bros." name (even if just barely).

You could arguably say that Master Hand is technically a Kirby character and that the Beam Sword is far too generic of a weapon to be specifically representative of Smash Bros.

If not that, then you could say that although they originate from Smash Bros., it's still just another of Nintendo's many franchises and thus shouldn't embody the entire setup you have here.

The Master Hand was in Super Smash Bros., before he was ever in a Kirby game.

I'm almost positive he's specifically based on the cursor that shows up in various Kirby games. Considering how much else Smash Bros. borrows from Kirby, it's not much of a stretch to say he's supposed to be a reference.

...No. The white-gloved hand has been pretty much a Nintendo staple since Super Mario Bros.

Actually, the gloved hand has been a staple in animated media in general since before color pictures.

A giant gloved hand that you fight as a final boss did not appear in Super Mario Bros., nor in any Mickey Mouse cartoon. I can guarantee you that.

I'm not saying that "gloves" are in Nintendo Legends. I'm saying that the "Master Hand" is in this game.

I know. I was just saying that Master Hand's just a giant white glove, and that they've been around much longer than Super Smash Bros or Kirby.

Master Hand's the first sentient white glove, so that's what makes him special.

Master Hand's design in Super Smash Bros. is very similar to the cursor in Kirby's Adventure and Kirby Super Star. The fact that they're both games made by HAL only adds to it. Then they retroactively added Master Hand in as a Kirby character.

All I was doing was giving food for thought. My initial point was that Smash Bros. is just one of many Nintendo brands and unless the game is strictly based on it (which it isn't based on 1up's very elaborate description up there), then the game itself shouldn't have Super Smash Bros. in the title.
