Level backgrounds?
Because while some are self explanatory, others are just really quite weird and raise a whole lot of questions. For example, the Curious Factory background has a huge robot being built in the background, which actually looks pretty grrr cool, yet never quite explained.
So...
Some are explanatory (Palm Tree Paradise), but what's the deal with...
The weird faces/figures in the background of Wildflower Fields? It's hard to see, but I can see what could look like the bee eneies in the clouds/flowers if I open the background image in YYCHR (some ROM hack equivalent to Microsoft Paint). Symbolism?
How exactly is Monsoon Jungle on what seems to be a mountain? The background elements are stacked in some areas, so how can trees be growing from other trees?
What's the killer robot and weird machinery in the Curious Factory for? Heck, considering how neat most of these backgrounds look, I wonder if they're some kind of stock artwork Nintendo imported or something...
Are the images in the Pinball Zone background meant to be a pastiche of the imagery found in real world pinball machines (non branded ones)? Because a lot of the images look they're from fifties B movie posters.
Why is the Big Board such an overly cheery styled level in an action platformer?
Why is Doodle Woods called Doodle Woods if 90% of the background isn't a forest, and you appear to be some distance from said forest?
Is the Domino Row background made of yarn or something? Looks like something from Kirby's Epic Yarn to me.
Who's the old guy in the paintings in Crescent Moon Village? Why is there what appears to be a bullet hole in the background by said painting?
Heck, where is said level based on? The foreground says it's English, the background trees and style seems more like Salem or something from the time of the Crucible. But then why is there electric lighting in some areas and not others?
Why do the rocks in the frozen bit of Fiery Cavern look like they have faces in them?
Is Hotel Horror located near/within Crescent Moon Village? The background of the outside area seems to be said town in day light/early morning.
How can there be a window or ten in the Golden Passage, when it's in the centre of a freaking pyramid?
Why is there what looks to be a kitchen in the background of the Spoiled Rotten boss fight?
What are the icons in the background of the final boss battle of? They're always behind the chandeliers.
