So, if you are a Mario fan and have a computer (which most likely explains why you're here too), you must already know about Super Mario bros. Z (or SMBZ for short). It's a flash series using sprites and musics (mostly) from various video games.
It's supposedly a Mario X Dragon Ball Z cross-over, but honestly the only relations are the story (SMBZ's story loosely follows DBZ's Cell Saga's) and the heavy amount of action (yay !). A few battle moves are similar to what you could have seen in some anime too.
Basically, it's just a flash movie with Mario and Sonic (yes, Sonic) on it. And a lot of battles and explosions. But what makes this series special is the amount of Mario-ness to its universe.
The plot follows the Mario games' continuity. Pretty much every single move in every action-packed battle is an attack (or an exageration of it) which has already been used in at least one Mario game. Even if you put the series' universe aside, trying to spot every single Mario series reference in all battles is pretty fun.
Really, the series does follow the games' continuity, and it's not just about mentionning a few events from a few Mario games. The first episode starts on a Mario Kart tournament. The series use a similar humor as the games, although there are much more references. Nobody acts out-of-character, not even the Sonic characters. Everything is right where it should be, and if it wasn't for the meme references and the somewhat too exagerated battles sometimes (in episode 6, Mario hammers a Koopa... who then goes through a couple mountains) (this issue of "too exagerated actions" is fixed since episode 7, where it's still more epic than in the games but it doesn't get insane either), you could almost believe it's made by a guy who works at Nintendo and knows everything about the Mario universe and the Sonic one.
Basically, Super Mario bros. Z gets its job done as an action series, it gets its job done as a fan-sequel to the whole Mario series, it gets its job done as a good-quality flash series, and it's something you MUST watch if you are a Mario fan. Or a Sonic fan. Or a Dragon Ball fan. If you love all these three, good for you.
