I found the article to be awkwardly written and not all that comprehensive since it seems to focus on nothing in particular save for Mario, Zelda and Metroid.

Those are pretty much the only series I do pay much attention to.
But tell me what was awkwardly written please, especially compared to say, my Waluigious articles.

The style of the article is more spoken than written; it comes across as bad writing and sounds natural spoken aloud. It needs to be cleaned up and written in a more formal style (e.g. don't use "Problem is,", use "The problem was that"). It would have been fine in a less formal context at shorter length, like these forum posts.
