Remember Ghost T.? He's the spirit of a Toad that died on the Excess Express. At one point, he asked Mario to retrieve his beloved diary to him. If Mario dared to read the diary, he'd see these words:
Month X Day X Cloudy
I got on a train today. And on that train...
What was he talking about? What did he see on the train? Also, was Mario just unable to keep reading, or did the entry really just stop there?

I always just thought that was because Ghost T. shocked him out of reading it.
As for what was in it, I guess that's just for the guys at Nintendo to know, and for us to write Fan-Fictions on.
Edit: Waitwaitwait! Got some inspiration. Bee Arr Bee.

I don't think they had anything particular in mind. It was just something to start the page with.
On a side note, now that we've read his diary, are we going to die? D:

Nope, just a copy of the text. It's like looking at Medusa through a mirror instead of straight at her-- and I just realized that I'm replying to you instead of writing this stupid story... www.myfacewhen.com/181/

You know, you learn during that chapter that a passenger once died eating the chief's special mushroom lunch (or something like that), but he died with a smile (which leads to think the lunch was delicious). I guess this was Ghost T.

I don't think that anything of importance was in the diary, Ghost T. just doesn't like people going through his stuff.

Maybe there was an entry in there about the chef's mushroom special as he was about to eat it.

That would explain why the page was unfinished. He was writing as he was eating the food, just before he died. BTW, I always thought that you'd get a game over if you read that thing. Also, the last time I played PM:tTYD I told the shadow queen that I would work for her, and guess what!.......I got a game over!....

I thought it was the answer you had to choose. Like, you'd then have to "betray" her after. I was surprised when I got a Game Over.

That is why you always save before a boss fight. Anyways I am going to take this opportunity for a discussion on Game Overs and the like to tell you all a story. One day I was playing the Extra Mode of Kirby's Adventure. If you had played it before you would know that in Extra Mode you cannot save and you are stuck with a health of 3. Of course you have unlimited continues but that is besides the point. I am playing this on the Virtual Console so the whole saving thing isn't a problem for me. Until one day, I am playing during a lightning storm, right as I am about to deliver the last hit on the final boss... BOOM Power's gone... game over...

That would explain why the page was unfinished. He was writing as he was eating the food, just before he died. I thought the page was finished but Mario only had time to read the first few words.

Yea that might be possible. But aren't you able to read those same words over and over again? If Mario's got time to do that, then why wouldn't he have time to just read the whole thing? Or to at least finish reading the sentence?

The text doesn't appear directly. Every word appears one after the other. When the text bubble is full and you can go to the next "page", the character finished his sentence in-universe. The game allows you to skip it at any time or to read it again for your comfort. Except if you think that, when you go back in a dialogue in Paper Mario, the character says his words again.
