Basically, a Luigi's Mansion sequel. While Idon't have the entire story worked out, it would feature E.Gadd, Luigi (Duh!), King Boo, and the Portrait ghosts from Luigi's Mansion, including a few new ones. Oh yeah, and it would also feature Waluigi's backstory.
Also, it would be much darker than the last. Character design would be more realistic as well. For example, Luigi would have his Brawl design. Boos would look a little more spectral, and some of the Portrait Ghosts look a little more human.
Instead of the Mansion, Luigi would be exploring regions of the Mushroom Kingdom from the RPGs, such as Twilight Town, Toadwood Forest, etc.
And by darker than the last game, I mean there would be much creepier undertones, such as one boss appearing to have a sword going through his chest. And a whole building appearing to have the ME equivelant of a Stanic Ritual going on inside.
Of course, the game would have comic relief.
So, what d'you guys think?

"Your pure blood will be a most welcome sacrifice to STAN! Mwah! Mwah hah! Mwah hah hah hah!" Seriously though, that would be a little too dark for a Mario game. I don't think that would fit under the tradition of Mario games being E for Everyone. Though, having Waluigi as a horror villain might just be the breakthrough role he needs for people to take him seriously!

I need to use spellcheck more often, huh.
On topic, I t doesn't really need to be Resident Evil-type horror, but just enough to give you nightmares if you think to hard about it. I mean, look at games like MOTHER 3. You start playing, not really knowing what's going to happen. One moment you'll be laughing, and the next you'll be in some dire situation. I use MOTHER 3 as an example, because I think that game perfected that formula.
Another idea for the game would be the party members (It would be more of an RPG, if anything). For example, Waluigi would be the main villain until King Boo reappears and attacks them both. This would of course force the two to team up. Can you honestly say you wouldn't laugh at the idea of Waluigi trying to fit a Poltergust onto his body?
The game would also be littered with references to both the Mario RPGs and Platformers. I imagine trying to catch a nerdy teenage ghost while he's on a chatroom session with Francis from SPM. Or King Boo complainingthat he was replacedby some lousy rock-ghost-thing in a certain past game.
Honestly, I would by a game like this.

I like everything except that "nightmares if you think too much" bit. Honestly, this is the reason I hate Earthbound and related games - I tend to overthink everything and they're made to make people like me extremely uneasy. I'd rather take straight-up "zombie dogs through the window" horror than this subtle Masked Man thing.
Why does no one think Waluigi would make a good standalone hero or villain? Even in the games where he's more than "just a character" - those being basically only Mario Party 3 and DDR: Mario Mix, he's still not the biggest villain.

Well, I personally love that aspect of EarthBound-type games. You'll find the same thing if you think about PiT or Luigi's Mansion itself as well, though. Once you take a game's storyline into context, it takes on a whole new level of freakiness.

Yeah, you could think about how Mario & Luigi could just as easily have caused the space-time continuum to unravel with all their time-skipping.
Or you could think about the back stories of some of the portrait ghosts. I mean, Chauncey was one when he died, Sue Pea was killed in her sleep, Sir Weston died from Hypothermia, and Mr. Luggs ate so much that his internal organs ruptured.
Even the fricken' dog's ghost is in the house.

Chauncey is the baby, right ? He's born as a ghost. Forget what the picture shows, the game clearly states at a moment that he's born as a ghost.
The thing is, those people are peaceful actually, and King Boo allows them to continue living (somewhat) due to the haunted mansion. What does Luigi do ? He takes them away from their haven and transform them into portraits forever. They won't even go to the Underwhere and possibly the Overthere. They won't go in the afterlife, they'll spend the eternity in a portrait. That's disturbing.

That's not all.
Mario crushes, incinerates, blasts, explodes, and ultimately destroys all enemies in his path, never letting up for nothing, not a second thought for all the lives he's taking.
And not just for Mario, but for everyone else too.
Kirby, Captain Olimar, Link, Samus, the list goes on. All are guilty of mass murder, and there's not a tinge of regret for all the more damage they cause rather than prevent.

The Kirby series is much less serious. You can say that, when someone dies, he comes back. Look at Shadow Kirby in Kirby's Amazing Mirror, he can be inhaled and thus "killed" yet he comes back from nowhere.
However Mario does kill everything in his path.

In all honestly, I maintain that Mario really doesn't kill that many enemies. Give them a good beating, sure. But he's not much of a killing-type guy.

Super Mario Bros. originally states that Mario kills the enemies though. A Koopa wrote behind a sign in Paper Mario that "what Mario does to all those Kooopa Troopas is shameful". And due to the insanity of the character (or of the series generally) I don't see why Mario wouldn't have fun squashing every enemy on his way.
EDIT: Actually, I also originally thought that Mario was only beating them up, until I realized that, in Super Mario World, an enemy falling into the lava has the same effect as an enemy being squashed... plus why would the game allow you to throw them into the lava but not to kill them directly ?

I stand by my explanation that all enemies have lots of extra lives. And they restock while the game is turned off. So it doesn't matter whom Mario kills, if he passes through that area again, everyone's back.

Yeah, I agree with SMBMaster, Mario wouldn't have Fun killing people(Or.. Uhh.. Mushrooms?), althoughI imagine there are a few Casualties(i.e. The Ones that Fall into Lava)!

A few casualties ? Lava is lethal. Except in Mario Kart, where everyone is invincible anyway. It's not just "a few casualties", it's about Mario killing everyone on his way and having fun doing it. Don't you think it's fun to stomp a Koopa Troopa and to throw his shell to combo-kill all Goombas next to you ?
And Mario did kill the Koopalings in SMW, and Bowser in NSMB. He also had to kill Count Bleck in SPM. Why wouldn't he kill the sub-minions ?

But he doesn't get some sick enjoyment out of Killing them, and I imagine hardly any Actually fall into the Lava! Mario just the beats the Tar out of them!

It's not like Mario was a sadist. It's more like he's still as overenjoyed as ever, and he runs everywhere, killing everyone on his way without caring because he's too full of energy.

If he has morals, why does he take the time to beat all those enemies ? He could simply avoid them. Plus he uses violence for everything. And what he saw written somewhere in Paper Mario ("What Mario does to all those Koopa Troopas is shameful!") didn't changed his mind apparently.
