This is a topic about the flying versions of the Koopa Troopas and Goombas.
How do you think they get their wings? Are they earned or do they come naturally?
Also why do they lose them when jumped on?
I think they could be earned somehow or given to them by magic.

They get them from P-Wings. Unless P-Wings come from them, in which case I think they would be equiped magically, as Paratroopas and Paragoombas don't really seem to be a species since they lose their wings after they get hit once. Whatever it is they aren't born with the wings for sure.

Actually, for Goombas at least, I'd think it's natural, as they spew Micro-Goombas, which means that's how they reproduce.

You don't know that regular goombas don't do that as well. The Paragoombas just take advantage of their arial postion

Caterpillars don't reproduce either. I'm saying that they use their higher position to reproduce easier, in the same vein that butterflies do.

So are you saying that the Paragoomba is a later stage of a Goomba's evolution throughout life, much like a butterfly is to a caterpillar?

Yes. It makes sense, since wings are often developed as a means of reproduction, and Paragoombas are the only ones shown reproducing.

Parakarry is an interesting case - he's a Paratroopa and his wings are permanent. If he's stomped on, he falls to the ground with wings folded for however many turns, but he gets back up with working wings.
Also, Goombario's parents and grandparents are obviously old enough to reproduce, and they have no wings.
I think the wings disappearing are graphical shorthand for the wings being broken and unusable, like bodies vanishing rather than cluttering up the screen.

I think that when Mario jumps on a Paragoomba he breaks the wings (that is why the Goomba looks virtually un-hurt when you jump on its wings) Another reason to believe that they are a different species is that in Super Mario Bros 3, Paragoombas looked different from regular goombas

It's quite possible that Goombario's parents and their parents lost their wings at some point after reproducing their respective children.

Or they never had wings at all. If Paratroopas got their wings at a certain point in life, where would they grow from? Its a shell!

My co-writer Pyrosheep is of the opinion that Koopas and Goombas gain their wings by using the P-Wing item. That would explain losing them at the very first injury. But that would also mean they constantly hear that darn ringing noise! Aaaaaah! Poor Parakoopas!
