The Mario series has handled many things quite well, but one subject that the Big N seems to avoid blatantly stating is religion. Now, how 'bout we analyze some of this. 1. Magic is used frequently, and where there's magic, there's Witchcraft. And where there's Witchcraft, there may be Satanic Worshipping. And when there's a Satan, you have a God. 2. The Temple of Form. Now, temples are sometimes regarded as "sacred," not "holy." But I'll leave it on. 3. We all know Hollijolli Village was intended to be like Christmas/Hanukha/Kwanzaa/Yule/whatever other holiday. And these are religious (not sure about Kwanzaa)holidays. 4.Boos, Ghosts, Mr.Bones, Dry Bones, etc. These creatures are all undead, and the udead are lost souls trying to gt to "The Beyond". 5. The spirits in Yoshi Topsy-Turvy seem pretty god-like to me. If you know any others, please share!

I think SPM sums up the whole religion thing fairly well. There's definitely a heaven/hell/purgatory thing going on. Grambi doesn't seem to be god though, as he doesn't seem to have any power outside of Overthere. Bonechill is definitely supposed to be the devil though, right down to the part about him being a fallen angel.
If I was going to guess what the people actually worship though, I would go with the stars/Star spirits. A few of the Paper Mario games have people saying things like "thank the stars" or stuff like that. There also seems to be a bunch of temples devoted to them...

Stars definately seem to be of the highest order in the Mushroom Universe. Star Spirits grant wishes while Lumas have enough energy for nuclear fission - great feats of magic and physics.
As for the dead lands in SPM...eh, I'm a bit skeptical on those being the dead lands of the whole Mushroom Kingdom. For one thing, it's in the same dimensional rift as the rest of Flipside and those other worlds, and for another, Mario seems pretty clueless about it. Not to mention it's so hard to tell what's fourth-wall-breaking and what's not in that game. Then again, the rest of his party seems to know about it.

For one thing Flipside is between dimensions so it has acces to pretty much all of them and Mario doesn't know about the Underwhere because he never got a game over (I'm sure he has but how else could he have beat Bowser

Toonami has the right Idea with the star thing. But I'm pretty sure the underwhere is supposed to be the underworld for all universes, ya know, with the dry bones and all. (do koopas exist only on the mushroom planet?)
Also, the 2-D thing is just an effect for the game. I mean, watching the intro, wasn't the mushroom kingdom 2-D as well?

But still, Im quite sure the thing actually happened in 3d, the paper thing is the developers taking some liberties.
I mean, really, how much changes if you take away flipping? Not much, right?

Well it does defeat the purpose of Bestovius being there...also Mario would be able to go to the second world (and all subsequent worlds after that) by getting the second Pure Heart first. On a side note, lol at the "Toonami," Rex.

It would be almost impossible to locate the second pure heart first and then you would never find the first one

If you're talking about the one Merlin gives you, my bad. I meant the third Pure Heart first.

But there would still be a pure heart missing unless you went back to get it

Well, sure, but he didn't. Every Pure Heart was supposed to lead to the next, remember? If he had the opportunity to skip the first one, then it isn't leading to it.

That is what i was saying. And if that happened Mario would have never found all of the Pure hearts

Exactly, which is why he had to have some kind of ability brought about by Bestovius so that he could be guaranteed to get the pure hearts in order.

I think the Toads and Koopa have different religions and maybe even different variations of religions like Protestant/Catholic and Shi'ite/Sunni Muslim and the like.

They could. But with definitive proof of the stars governing the world, I doubt other religions besides star worship would have many followers.

But even if there are not many of them they still are existant

Yeah, there are others. The Goombas in Castaway Bay of Mario Party 6 worship tribal gods, for example.

There are probably loads of indigenous groups of Toads, Koopas, etc in isolated regions with their own religions like deep in Forever Forest or somewhere.
