Talk about people visiting Mario's universe, as well as Mario characters visiting other universes here. Here's a subject starter: do we consider them canon? Some may be just references to other games and unimportant, such as Mario and co. in the audiences of Kirby Super Star, but some are necessary, like Bow-Wow the Chain Chomp in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening of Wario's appearance in Densetsu no Stafy 3. (In this Japan-only title, Wario helps the main character Stafy, a starfish/star through a level, using his moves from the Wario Land games, for those of you who don't know)

Most of it can be in-game because if I was a game creator, I'd put some creatures from one of my games to be a cameo in another.
Very fun that would be.
And the Link/Samus etc. thing is just because of Smash Bros really.

So how do we explain if a story can't be told if you omit the character?

Sorry can you say that again?

If a game needs a character from another universe to continue its plot, how do we explain this?

Wario in Stafy 3 could happen because Wario doesn't care for rules, and therefore goes wherever he wants. Sort of like jumping into the filming of a movie, except you can't retake the scene.
Bow-Wows in TLoZ:LA...wasn't that whole game a dream anyway? Wouldn't be surprised if Link's dream caused bits of the Marioverse he knew to creep in.

Like final fantisy charachters being in MH3on3? Or better yet, like Final Fantisy charachters being in Kingdom Hearts games. I never played any of those games so I don't really know...

And the connection between Mario and the Flat Zone through several of the G&W/G&W Gallery games. Those are probably considered the least canon, though.

Actually they weren't in flat zone, the Mario ones where redone with Mushroom Kingdom objects and sprites.

That's not what I mean. In G&W Gallery 4, Mario talks along with Mr. Game & Watch.

We could go the easy way out and say, "Smash Bros. Universal/Dimensional Screwups," but maybe there's another way to explain it.
On that Marioverse 411 Board, Claws said something like that Link has some portal in Hyrule, because he went into the SoulCalibur Earth and in SMRPG looking for evils to vanquish. He also made a good statement that Samus and Kirby may be in the same universe (Though it could be disproven), and he said that it was accepted that Kirby and Mario are in the same universe.
I really like that.

If Metroid's in the same universe as Kirby, and Kirby's is the same as Mario's, then Metroid's the same as Mario's as well. I think he was basing it off of Melee, though. I'm going to just consider the Stafy universe part of the Mario one. There are star people and the Wario cameo above. Also, there's the poster in M&L: SS, the cameo in SPP, and it takes place underwater, which is mostly unexplored territory in the Mario world.

Good point, the Stafy Poster, which could mean at least Kirby, Stafy, and Mario are in the same universe.

I know Stafy is in the same universe as Mario but Kirby would have to be in a very far away part of Mario's universe if he existed in it

OK, how about this: Kirby lives in a galaxy far away, Metroid either takes place in the future in our dimension, or on a different, more advanced galaxy with a planet called Earth. Donkey Kong is definetely on our Earth, it's been confirmed numerous times. Link is in a nother dimension. An interesting fact, Wario may have been space traveling too. My take on Wario in Wario Blast and Stafy 3 is, When Bowser lifted the castle into space during Mario Galaxy, Wario and Luigi were there too. Luigi was sent all over and Wario first ended up on Planet Bomber and eventually Stafy's world.

I'll take this apart bit by bit: OK, how about this: Kirby lives in a galaxy far away, Fair enough.Metroid either takes place in the future in our dimension, or on a different, more advanced galaxy with a planet called Earth. Since when does Metroid have a planet called Earth? There's Zebes, Tallon IV, and lots of others, but no Earth. Donkey Kong is definetely on our Earth, it's been confirmed numerous times. Uh...no it hasn't. In fact, there's strong evidence to the contrary, like Big Ape City and Baby DK. The only basis are the enviornments, which even they don't hold up when you consider giant beehives, floating bramble mazes, and magical mushroom forests.Link is in another dimension. Possibly...where's your proof? An interesting fact, Wario may have been space traveling too. My take on Wario in Wario Blast and Stafy 3 is, When Bowser lifted the castle into space during Mario Galaxy, Wario and Luigi were there too. Luigi was sent all over and Wario first ended up on Planet Bomber and eventually Stafy's world. While Planet Bomber fits in nicely, there are many other ties to Stafy in the Mario universe, so another planet seems sketchy.

DKBB and DKJC, the planet we see is definitely Earth. Samus was born in an Earth Colony on another planet. Link in another dimension is just an idea I had, maybe he is on our Earth in the past or a different planet. I dont have enough evidence though. You might be right about Stafy.

Samus either lives in the Future of Earth or in a future dimension

I'm not going to believe DK's on Earth unless you find something that directly says he's on earth and has always lived there. Enviornments alone aren't good arguments, because you can take almost anywhere in DKC2 and say how unrealistic it is. DK64 has lots of places too. Also, in the future, there's no telling how far away an Earth colony could be.

Australia is shown in Jungle Climber. And Cosmic Highway in Barrel Blast shows the Far East. And I'm pretty sure Rare has confirmed the games being on Earth, but I can't remember where.
