Obviously, this will contain storyline spoilers, so look away if you don't want 'em.
Okay, so around the birth of the Mario Bros., seven stars fell from the sky. These seven stars contain great power (well, that's what present-day Bowser said). No-brainer: Bowser wants 'em all. So he goes back in time to find the babies who have them.
So who ends up with the stars? Every character of present-day importance: Mario, Luigi, Peach, DK, Wario, Yoshi, and even Bowser. This can't be a coincidence...
Here is the theory: every hundred years or so, a number of these "character stars" (we'll think of a better name later) fall from the sky and designate those who will have tremendous importance in the events of the next century. It wouldn't matter if they were chosen at random, either, as they would link together sooner or later.
As a side note, all seven current-generation star bearers are part of the Smash Bros. team (despite the fact that Wario hasn't fought yet). Maybe the worlds of Nintendo is more connected than we think...?

The very last scene in the credits makes me wonder: Is the Yoshi we see today the green yoshi who saved Mario, or the newly hatched one who got the star? I still tend to think it was the adult yoshi, since he and Mario would alredy share some sort of bond. But there's really no evidence saying that it's definately him.

Gotta look away for now; my sister said she'd buy this game, but she hasn't come through yet.

I think that the green yoshi of today is the newly hatched one from YI2 and also the young green yoshi from Yoshi Story. Although they were practicaly born around the same time and near the same place, Mario didn't meet the yoshi until latter in Super Mario world. (The 1st green one mario meets). Mabe a couple of the yoshis from the YI games are the parents.

I'm gonna go with SMBZ, I think the original YI Yoshi is the tribe leader of Yoshi... Wait, that doesn't work, those are different islands.
Nevertheless, remember, Yoshi introduced himself to Mario in SMW. He's probably the Yoshi's Story Yoshi.

On Lavalava Island? Nah, that was a different place.

Oh the one on Lavalava island might be his brother or something
But, wait I remembered that the village leader on Lavalava Island knows Raphael Raven so that means that either Lavalava Island is Yoshi's Island or the Yoshi's and Ravens moved to another island I think it is the former

Or maybe that Yoshi was the one you used to fight Raphael in YI?

Sorry, I don't even know what the village yoshi looks like, I havn't played that game. I don't even know why I posted. But I can tell from what kingkoopa has written that only the Ravens or raven would have had to move to another Island('the' Yoshi's Island) and not the yoshis.

But maybe Lavalava Island is Yoshi's Island. But that is very unlikely

Lavalava Island is a small isle in the Mushroom Kingdom. Yoshi Island is in Dinosuar Land.

That is why I said it was unlikely. Maybe the Yoshis decided to settle in a new area after all of the bowser incidents

I figure Rapheal landed on Lavalava island after being blasted off the moon. He's so big because of residue magic.
Also, I doubt the yoshi's moved, they're probobly still on yoshi's island to this day.

But maybe some decided to follow Raphael

Wait... That wasn't the actual moon, was it? xD
There's almost no chance that SMBZ was actually right, unless the YI Yoshi left without tending to the Star Baby Yoshi before getting blasted by Baby Bowser's plan to steal the island's Happyhappy Tree and swam/flew/ect. all the way to Lavalava Island. Yeah right.

Who says that the star baby Yoshi was the YI Yoshi's (translation: it's not his kid)

It's pretty probable though.

There are millions of green Yoshis on Yoshis Island, there is no proof that the Star Baby is his kid, and plus only female Yoshi's eggs hatch
