In SM64(DS), Toad says that Mario will have bad luck if he loses his cap. But why exactly does he also take more damage?

Never thought about that before. Perhaps the cap's magically endowed and soulbound to Mario since he's had it since birth. It could give him increased strength and stamina.

Mario has to have more than one hat, but they could have been effected from all of Mario's star power.
And this needs to be moved, but to which thread?

And this needs to be moved, but to which thread? Why would this need to be moved? It's more character-related than anything else, as far as I know.

Isn't the Character Specific thread supposed to be for specific people?

I'm thinking maybe general?
Anyway, I don't think it's the only source of his power, since in the 3D platfomers, even after you lose your hat, you can still do everything you did before. Perhaps it only ups Mario's defense. Also, I think he only has one, Baby Mario's hat seem a bit too big for his head, suggesting he grew into it. The wing/metal/vanishing caps don't count, since they disappear after a certain amount of time.

I can think of about 20 differnt times where his hat could get lost/burned/eaten/shredded/stolen/and or jacked up in most of his games.

Hey, he is Super Mario, why can't his hat be super too?

He's Super Mario only after eating a Mushroom. Before that he's simply Mario.

Well, his hat has some kind of effect on his body. I say that it was magically blessed at his birth to endow him with increased defense.

Well what about Luigi and Wario? The same thing happened to them in SM64DS. Would that be the same thing, or just an in-game thing to make them more equal? (I'm thinking Wario was just equallized.)

Well, there's definatly somthing special about his hat, considering people aren't normally born wearing hats. I'm guessing it's some sort of superstar thing... Yoshi used the wings that were originally in SMW so that doesn't count. As for Wario, I don't know, he was able to use the same powerups as Mario in SML2, but somthing still seems different about him. Pehaps he gets his powers from a different kind of magic? (possibly dark magic?)

Wario is willing to do whatever he can to upsurp Mario. So I wouldn't be surprised if he went to a Magikoopa or something to get his hat cursed.

Yah know Wario has dozens of power-up type transoformations that he's gotten over the years.

Yeah, but to have the same hat powers as Mario without having the same mysterious birth means he probably went somewhere else to get the hat powers.
And he probably only started wearing his second hat because it was similar to Mario's.

Didn't he have the "Mario Bros. cap" in YIDS?

Do we all agree their hats are magically altered somehow?

Toomai, you're right. I guess all of them could have hats blessed from birth.
YM, I agree.

DUH stupid me. The hats are most definetly blessed by the Star Spirits.

You think so? Makes sense, but would the Star Spirits bless Wario's hat? I guess if they can't foretell the future, they might.
