Ok, with Yoshi's Island 2 coming out, I really think we should try to figure this out.
This is what I've come up with so far.

-The DK in the original arcade game is Crankey Kong

-He is older then he seems in the arcade game

-The DK we see today, (with the tie) was born around the same time as Mario. He is the DK Jr. we see in the game of the same name.

-He is also much older then he seems in the DK Jr. game, perhaps almost fully grown.

-The SMK DK Jr. is ALSO the DK we see today. Not his son.

-His shirt is later replaced with the tie and the "Jr." term is dropped

-I have no idea who the DK Jr. who appears in Mario Tennis is, be it son, clone or brought back from the past.

That's what I've come up with so far. If you see any anomilies in my theory, feel free to point them out.

The DK Jr. from MT64 could be from the past, considering that Baby Mario is also in that game.

Yeah, I think DK just decided to get in on the "bringing one's younger self to the future" practice that Mario and Luigi had been doing. Have we ever come up with an explanation for how they did it, though?

Since the end od PiT shows the character from the past using the time macine to return to the past instead of a time hole, I'm guessing it was just sitting around for many years somewhere in the Mushroom castle before anyone figured out how it got there or what it even was.

Sorry to revive an old topic, but assuming we consider educational games canaon, we will get a little more insight on another member of DK's family in Donkey Kong Jr. Math as Player 2. (Possibly Swanky or Funky Kong) Here's a screenshot:

A Pink DK Jr? That wouldn't be Swanky or Funky, it's have to be a Pink Kong.

They could grow out of it. I had blond hair as a kid and now it's dark brown.

Could be. Still, it's a little bit of a stretch.

And most blondes have brown hair by the time they're fully matured.

Well, on topic, it could possibly be Funky, because he's a moviestar, and the brown could be hair colour and makeup. I mean, he has an afro.

Still unlikely though.
