Bit cheesy but here goes...
Mario awakes one day in Mushroom Kingdom to find the absolute destruction of the once prominent village. Houses are destroyed, the sky is black, it's lightning, and an evil army of Koopa's rules above. It turns out that the Star of Happiness (TM) was stolen from the TMK's central archives inside a vault in the deep catacombs of the underground. With Bowser in control, he has the power to change and control character's thoughts and feelings, leading them to rebel against Mario. Whats worse? The fact that everyone, including Mario's own brother Luigi, has been brainwashed into thinking that Mario is the source of evil, and Bowser is there hero. They all turn against Mario and try to attack & rid him of TMK.
It's up to Mario to restore the peace and happiness back to Mushroom Kingdom and get rid of Bowser once and for all!
