Perhaps the alternate reality was so desolate that there wasn't much else but those nine levels.

I always thought world 6 was Darkland and Yoshi was just magicly warped there from the top of the moutian in world five.

Again, another possibility.

Well, I guess that's possible if there's an island in Dark Land (which for some reason I tend to place to the south of everything else) that looks like Yoshi's Island. Which, again, is possible. The Metroid Prime 2 example just came to me because I'm currently playing that game. (Kamikaze, I actually like it!)

I always belived the reason it was dark was because of the passage of the day. If you look closely at the map, you'll see the sun is low in world 1, in the middle of the sky in world 3, and the moon is out in world 6. Also the game quotes the stork flying across the pre-dawn sky, and the game ends with the moon out.

That makes sense. But wasn't the island shaped differently?

On the Yoshi island title screen, when they show world 6, the don't accually show any water so is possible that the shape of the island dose not change. You just can't see the shore line in the title screen. (Most likely because it's dark out)

I think I like this explanation.

img201.imageshack.us/img201/5125/world67qp.pngYoshi's Island and the dark area are distincitivly 2 differnt places. And it seems highly impossible all the Yoshi's completed the journay in a day. In most levels the sun is in differnt positions. 1-1 and 1-2 are sunny but 1-3's sky is darker. Almost all the boss levels are at night, ect. Plus how is world 6 seemingly glowing when everything around it is black?

What, were they just going to have you stare at a blank title screen? They had to show something. i7.photobucket.com/albums/y300/lucipep/yimap.pngLook at the sun in world 3 and then in world 6 it's seems pretty possible that only one day went by. It's even possible for a person playing the game to finish in one day. (If you're good)

Ok let me say it again.
In most levels the sun is in differnt positions. 1-1 and 1-2 are sunny but 1-3's sky is darker. Almost all the boss levels are at night, ect.
The LEVELS sky changes. Almost every other level it's either eveing or day or night.

If that's so, it sounds like the adventure took several days.

He's right; it probably took at least a couple of days to cover all that ground.

I'm thinking that particular island was man-made. Er, mushroom-made rather. But yeah, the whole thing screams "synthetic". Perhaps it was built as a Yoshi reservation?

I've seen pics of it. As always I don't consider much sport things cannon but it could have been a tribute to Yoshi's at some time.

Perhaps it was built as a Yoshi reservation? I doubt that, mainly because there aren't any visible food sources. And we all know Yoshis need food sources. Why would Yoshis need a reservation, anyway?
