So here's a question that you may have seen in my Mario/DK essay. Do you think the original adventure with Donkey Kong took place in Brooklyn or in Big Ape city? In the original version, the adventure took place in good ol' New York. But in DK '94 and Donkey Kong Land, they hint that the whole thing happened in Big Ape City on Donkey Kong Island. So what do you guys think?

The whole reason Rare added the Big Ape City world to DKL was to show the player that THIS was the area where the arcade games and '94 took place. So I choose Big Ape City.

Gotcha. So, in that case should we even acknowledge that Mario and Luigi are from Brooklyn? Because as far as I know, the original DK is the only thing that ties them to that.

Does the game actually say DK took place in Big Ape City or just hint?
I don't know what or where Big Ape City is but:
If it took place in Big Ape City wouldn't the natives helped out DK?
How would Mario and Pauline get there?
Where did DK originally come from? If Dk country land place, how and why would he come to Brooklyn?
Almost all manuels and books say they're from Brooklyn. The shows and movie say they're from Brooklyn. Their's too much proof to say they're not from Brooklyn.

Ok, Mario's from Brooklyn.
As for Big Ape City, the manuals only drop hints, but they're very heavy hints.
It's supposedly on DK Island.
We don't know who the natives are or if they're even on good terms with the kongs.
Pauline might have been a local of the city. Mario probably got there the same way he gets anywhere else: Warp Pipes.
DK seems to be from DK Island, and if we're taking the newer games into account then it seems as though he never really has been to Brooklyn.
