I had this huge epiphany the other day about the entire Mario series. If you look at the games and storylines, you can notice significant resemblences to various mythologies of different cultures. The idea of the two twin brothers being the saviours of the land has a significant Greek feel to it, much like Romulus and Remus (although granted, they were the founders of a civilization not the saviours), and so on a so forth. But anyway, I realized that the story of Mario is like a legend, and all the different games are like different tellings of the myths. This could explain the discrepencies, the different game types, the varying artwork and everything. And one idea I had about the Mario Party series and the spin-off games was that it's almost like the Olympics. These legendary characters would compete in various sports and games in order to prove superiority over one another.
Whattya think?

You saw Gladiator didn't you?
lol
I think it's a bit early to call Mario a legend. Seeing as how he's still in adventures.
And he's not dead yet.
The Mario Party Olimpic thing, very creative, really. I actually do mean it. But I think we can throw Bowser out of the party for obvious reasons I hope you've realised.

But I like trying to explain the discrepencies. But yeah, that does sound kind of cool, Mario being a legend. But wouldn't that mean a lot of what we see isn't true?

lol Yes, I did see Gladiator. But that really doesn't have anything to do with it, I'm just familiar with Greek and Roman Mythology.
And of course Mario can be a legend, the fact that he's having new adventures can be attributed to the fact that myths and legends change and grow constantly. It's only that people are telling new parts of the tale. And as for Bowser taking Part in the Mario Parties, doesn't he usually only show up as an obstacle that you have to pass? And if he is a Player Character, then once again it would be like a form of passive aggresive warfare. If he can out-play the Heroes of the Mushroom Kingdom then the people will be demoralized and thus become slightly easier pickings for Bowser's troops. (that's my theory, anyway)
Claws: I suppose it might mean that in a way, yes. But now it's our job to figure out what is "true" and what is "myth". I'm thinking the whole Mario Party/spin-off games storyline could be a fabrication of the myth.

I'm thinking the whole Mario Party/spin-off games storyline could be a fabrication of the myth. Is "the myth" Mario's life?

That's my theory. All the different games are the different crusades of this mythological hero.l

No offense but that sounds a bit cheezy.

*shrug* Hey, have you heard some of the ancient Greek or Roman myths? They've got some cheese of their own, if you know what I mean. Anyway, it was only a theory, and it seemed to me like a good way to explain all the indescrepencies.

I just couldn't resist the cheeze. It calls to me in the dead of night. And now I'm gonna lie down for a nap.

My theory still stands on the Mario series being different legends of the hero Mario. It would also help to explain the Paper Mario games.

I just think that that's taking too many liberties. Accepting this, dismissing that--if someone new wanted to get in on our discussions we'd have to explain what was true and what wasn't, and then he'd ask, "Who are you to contradict what the games tell us?" I'm just going to take the games seriously.
