In the Paper Mario games, we see a variety of "dark" enemies, who are usually stronger and well...darker in appearance. What makes them this way? There are also those dark stars from SMRPG and MP5. You think they have any significance towards why these dark monsters exist?

the dark stars are called ztars, but I think the dark monsters ae like shadows of the refular variant or are created from alchamy or dark magic

Or they just have a dark purple color variation.
There really just called "dark" to scare you, all they are is a little stronger really.
There's a dark bristle, bandit, pider, Boo, wizard, ruff puff, koopa, and some others.
They don't display any fighting methods differnt than their normal forms.

Maybe the Gloombas are Dark Goombas?
I suppose that being dark give you some "shadow-ness", so you are better suited to fight heroes and other "light" characters.
Then again, Dark Wizzerds are the worst in their class...

A lot of the dark charecters are in random natural places, like they wern't affected by magic from somebody.

I think the dark part of their name comes from living underground in damp, dark caverns

That wouln't explain why they have different stats though.

Maybe they're naturally tougher from living in such a difficult environment.

Is the general consensus that the dark creatures weren't magically altered?

Err...I don't know. There's not a lot of evidence for or against it. I really couldn't say one way or the other right now.

That's basically what your first post said. I'm of the opinion that they're not altered.

Not altered, just adapted to a dark environment.

Okay then.
By the way, I've been on vacation for the past week. That's why I've been absent from this forum for so long.

I think that they're different species, but related.

I think that they're different species, but related. I think there the same species and just live in dark places.

I agree. I believe the "dark" bit in the name is just something Nintendo added to show that they are adapted to living in dark conditions. Other than that they are the same as any ordinary Koopa, Goomba, etc.

They're just a little stronger with a different color pigment. Remember, some have been in the open lights.
