It seems that in almost every game review nowadays, people talk about voice acting. Especially when it isn't there. They talk about it like it's an essential part of any game no matter what. Why do people have a sudden obsession over it? Sure, it has its advantages: - Can be more immersive
- Helps flow of cutscenes
- Aids in character development
But in all seriousness, there are far more disadvantages: - Very easy to goof up: one bad voice can ruin a whole scene
- Takes more time and money to implement
- Any kind of repetition (such as accidentally talking to an NPC twice in a row) is usually extremely annoying even without voice acting
- Sometimes you just wish people would SHUT UP (ending scene of SMGxy, for example)
- Picture a dialogue-heavy game like SPM or TLoZ:TP with voice acting...it's bad enough just reading all that text (even Midna's Banjo-Kazooie mumble bugged me, although it was probably just the character)
Now, I may just be looking at the dark side here because I naturally hate voice acting (being a visual person). But really, how many big-name Nintendo games have required voice acting? Probably Metroid Prime 3, but that's it in recent years. But still, everyone seems to want Mario games to have voice acting. Why? (For one, they obviously haven't played SMS (not have I).) I don't know where I'm going whith this, so I'll just end it there (it seems like a rant now).

Thank you. Any kind of shallow thing like that really gets to me. I hate it when people complain about that, or graphics, or sound quality, or anything else. I don't see how one technical upgrade suddenly makes the older game bad. For example, Super Mario Bros. has horrific graphics by today's standards, but does that make it a crappy game? Absolutely not. I played PONG for the first time about a year ago and had a blast. Technical stuff will ALWAYS improve, but it's pure genius and innovation in games that sets them apart. Ten years from now, all of that eye candy and sound lust will seem obselete, even though it hasn't changed at all. However, I am perfectly okay with technical advancements if they add something to the gameplay, like 3D graphics in Super Mario 64, voice acting in Star Fox 64 (while it was annoying to read in the original), and save features. I wish people would stop caring about what has more processing power and what is actually, hmmm...I don't know...FUN?!

My friends, we have just gotten our first spam bot. Congratulations all, we couldn't have done it alone.

This one of course. It's linking to sites that sell things, it has a name made of random letters, and it's posting a generic response. I've actually seen this one on another forum I go to.

Not this one because we replied to it and it makes a good example of what a spambot is, but delete any future ones.
