Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I'm looking for a good making map-making software for making good quality Mushroom Kingdom maps.
The only one I've heard of is AutoREALM, which is quite good but it is quite difficult to draw the coastline and scales are quite difficult to come to grasp also.

I would use some sort of vector drawing program such as Inkscape to draw the borders, then split the map along them and color in every part separately... but that is a lot of effort and as Koopalmier said, it's better to use Paint unless this is supposed to be super-awesome-looking.

I don't really like Paint much but its good for a start and basic map designs. AutoREALM is better for how I want to it to look like as it uses symbols and other proper map stuff like topography, etc like you find on ordnance survey maps, etc.
EDIT: Never mind, I'll think I'll stick with AutoREALM. It's the only good map-making software I know off and it fits all my needs. Its better than Paint IMO as you can do allsorts on it.

Thanks, it looks good. Some of those pictures are exactly how I want my maps to look like and Paint is too basic and doesn't have all the tools I want to use. It doesn't say what software is used for the Metaverse picture on the How To page. I don't think it's AutoREALM but it looks good. Here is another good site I like to use: www.fantasymaps.com/101/index.htmlHowever it doesn't tell me what software to use.

You know, I was thinking, and I realized the Adobe Illustrator would be great for this. Not only does it allow you to make smooth lines, but you can modify certain segments without disturbing the rest of the line.
Of course, this wouldn't exactly be the easiest program to get you hands on. Unless you want to spend a ton of money, I recommend downloading a slightly older version via torrent. I did this with CS3 and it works fine. (It took a little while to figure out how to bypass the serial code though...)
