Bowser isn't even evil. Having him being the villain in every main series game is enough. I realize he's overused, but personally, I think he's one of the best villains in the series. He's a hammy jerk with repressed feelings for Peach. I've never beaten PM2, but the X-Nauts were boring from what I played. Although the Shadow Queen sounds slightly interesting. Count Bleck seems to be a desperate attempt at a "tragic" villain that just falls flat. And I've never beat SMRPG, so yeah. Cackletta was kinda interesting, though.

If anything, they should still keep him as the main villain in main series games but add more story, to allow him to do something more than just waiting you in the last level and failing in lava.

He's a hammy jerk with repressed feelings for Peach. That's the problem. RPG!Bowser is well established as the guy with the cool lines and obvious feelings for Peach with no idea of how to express them appropriately. He likes his life, and he'd rather work with Mario than have it badly disrupted. If he's the main villain, that implies there's nothing world-shaking out there like the X-Nauts, the Shadow Queen, the Shroobs, Necrosaro and Kefka...oops, game series mixup, I meant Count Bleck and Dimentio...Smithy, or even Cackletta. He'd need a really good plan, better than making himself invincible.

The X-Nauts rocked, in my opinion.

So, we have two suggestions for a developer: Bioware and Intelligent Systems.
Does anyone else have any differing ideas?

Bioware? *checks list of games they worked on* Seriously, no. Not a single non-adult-oriented, non-dark-and-brooding game save for Sonic, and even that one has "Dark" in the title? What next, Bethesda Softworks? Valve? I'd rather have Artoon work on an RPG and completely mangle it than something as non-children-oriented as that company taking on Mario.

I think they should try and introduce more villains. Fawful and Cackletta were great!

As for developers: Can Retro do to Mario RPGs what they did to Donkey Kong Country? I say it again.

Retro has other series to revive before they take care of Mario RPGs. Stuff like Star Fox. Plus I don't think that RPGs are exactly their specialty..

I didn't think platformers were their specialty either. But then DKC Returns was announced...

Intellegent Systems is making another Paper Mario for the 3DS. It's an actual RPG, not a platformer. What's there to worry about?

I fail to see how the Sonic game having "Dark" in the title is relevant to anything whatsoever... It was an excellent game that captured the tone of the Sonic series perfectly. That game alone is proof that Bioware could do an excellent RPG set in the Marioverse, if they got the chance. Also, I hardly consider MDK2 and Star Wars to be adult-oriented and/or dark-and-brooding. Intellegent Systems is making another Paper Mario for the 3DS. It's an actual RPG, not a platformer. What's there to worry about? I think you may have missed my point. I want a new Mario RPG, with a different style and feel. Paper Mario is fun and all, but I'm ready for something a bit more intuitive. I'm tired of only being able to have one other party member in battle at any given time. And, to be honest (and some of you might hate me for this), I'm tired of the paper art-style. I want a Mario RPG with 3D graphics, for a change.

So do I. Maybe Monolith Soft can make it or something. That would be a sight to see.
No it was not.

I don't honestly trust any RPG company that doesn't make the battles and gameplay different from the turn based norms of the genre. That's what worries me about another company taking it on, the Mario RPGs are dynamic both in battle and out of battle gameplay. They feel like a Mario game to the point of platforming and action commands and jumping on the heads of enemies. Heck, for me, even Mario RPG seemed a bit too Final Fantasy/Dragon Questish, and Mario games should NEVER downplay their connections to the main series.
That and... well, we need a more light hearted RPG series nowadays, one without any angst or 'drama' or 'tragic pasts' and with a tone more like the original Paper Mario or the first Mario and Luigi game. Sadly, it seems unlikely, what with video game makers apparently having a dislike of comedy.

@cheat-master30: I think the Mario RPGs are the only rare instances in which the Marioverse can actually be taken seriously, though. They actually have plot! Almost all of the other Mario games are just about rescuing the Princess from Bowser.
I don't see what's so wrong with a dramatic Mario narrative with a few dark elements to it, as long as it doesn't betray the Marioverse. Epic Mickey seemed to do a great job of it. Having a serious story doesn't automatically make it angsty...

I could go on for a 5 hour rant about how Epic Mickey won't do too good because every review is taking off 3 points or more simply because the camera is as bad as Sunshine's Camera (which really wasn't that bad to be honest). But I'll just say... HOORAY FOR PLOT IN MARIO GAMES.
