Hello everybody, I just felt the need to make this topic because of my own personal experience. As we all know, there are tons of Zelda, Metroid, Super Smash Bros., and even Halo theorist out there, yet none of them are ever judged for what they do; This is most likely due to the surplus of them, with Mario Theorist being the minority among Video Game theorist. Don't get me wrong, it's not the fact that we are a minority that bothers me, it's the ridicule we(or at least I have) receive(d) from other THEORIST! I can't even say that Mario is my favorite franchise without getting bashed by the, so-called, "Hardcore" gamers out there, let alone mention my hobby as a Mario Theorist... My question is this, "Why is it okay for them to have a serious discussion about The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Super Smash Bros., and even Halo: Combat Evolved, but we can't do the same with Mario?"

Halo makes sense. Zelda has a timeline. Mario has none of these.

Like Koopalmier says, Zelda has a detailed and deep storyline complete with history. I don't know about Halo as I've never played it. The Mario series doesn't have much of a timeline and all the games could have happened in any order, except Yoshi's Island.

People see the Mario universe closer to Mickey Mouse's than to Halo's. Although that isn't true, it's still true that the Mario universe is cartoony, lacks a true timeline and actual continuity between games, the characters are very cliché and boring (aside from Wario, Waluigi and Bowser) and you have floating yellow blocks containing magic mushrooms that make you taller.
But that's exactly why it's even more interesting.

Halo, yes. Zelda, no. Well, at least not available to the public. Zelda is mostly very cartoony franchise, in the vain of Mario; and the Zaelda timeline is only known by Miyamoto and Aonouma, and they didn't even say there was a timeline until earlier this year, but Zelda had a large theorist community prior to that. The legend of Zelda contains very few references to past games, the Wind Waker being one of the few that directly references another game(not counting sequels such as Majora's Mask, and Zelda II). Zelda is much closer to Mario than Halo, yet it is STILL accepted... *Grumble, Grumble*

I wouldn't call Zelda "cartoony". "Cartoony" would be seemingly nonsensical, which the Mario series is. The Legend of Zelda isn't really nonsensical, more like a fairy-tale, that's all.

Touche. But look at A Link to the Past, whenever Link knocks one of the guards into a Pit, he does a little cartoon run in the air before falling, now that's cartoony.

I say it depends on the Zelda game. After all, Wind Waker Link is referred to as "Toon Link" in SSB.

Another valid point. What I'm saying is that "Toon-like" Zelda games surpass the amount of "Realistic" Zelda games. Skyward Sword, I believe, would fall in the category of cartoony as well.

Zelda is still more dark and serious than Mario games, each game actually has a plot, and I'm pretty sure the fact there's a Zelda timeline was stated years ago.

Nope, only a few months ago. Of course Zelda is darker than Mario, but that doesn't mean that it isn't cartoony; Look at Kingdom Hearts, it can be pretty dark sometimes, but it's still cartoony.

Truthfully, I'd be less concerned that there is a minority and ridicule of Mario theorists so much as towards the Mario Fandom in general. I suppose what I'm trying to say is, it really is nonexistent except for small pockets like this forum here. Also, EpicGyllynn, what was your experience if you don't mind me asking?

Why does everyone ignore me... *goes to cry in a corner of the room*
Anyway, I think that, actually, the major reason nobody accepts the idea of Mariology is that they don't respect opinions. I didn't know some people would actually disrespect opinions, and going as far as insulting what other people likes, until I discovered Internet.
