Koopalmier: FF games use a European 4-element system for the crystals (or they did through FF5). After doing a bit of research, the seasonal affiliations match the European tradition as well - the logic being that air, which is hot and wet, and earth, which is cool and dry, match Mediterranean springs (warmer but still wet) and autumns (cooler but still dry).
