In case you didn't know, the game has a story. To sum it up: the 4 crystals from Final Fantasy 1 (and probably the same one than during the battle with Culex) falled on Mario's world. The red one (Fire Crystal) has a basketball, the yellow one (Earth Crystal) has a dodgeball, the green one (Wind Crystal) has a voleyball, and the blue one (Water Crystal) has a coin. But... depending of the mode you're playing, the season changes. And all modes are canon, as there's like a "last story" with a final boss battle (but, sshhh! I'm not spoiling anything else). Here's a pic comparison: img528.imageshack.us/img528/2602/msm.pngSo, do you think the game's events are during a whole year ? I have a theory about it. You see, the Crystals are the "motor" of the Final Fantasy dimension. It's similar to the Star Rods in the Nintendo dimension, or to the Chaos Emeralds in Sonic's dimension. My theory: As the Crystals aren't in their dimension anymore, said dimension is slowly collapsing, and the Crystals are trying to "get used" to Mario's world. As such, their powers are messing up the climate. - Wind Crystal -> Summer. Well, wind = clouds = evaporation of water. - Fire Crystal -> Spring. Fire = hotness, much like the Sun. - Earth Crystal -> Autumn. Err... I don't know. - Water Crystal -> Winter. Snow is water, duh. So, my guess is that the game happens during the same time period (at least the same week or month) but the planet's climate goes weird because of the Crystals. Your thought ?

My guess is that it's not playing out over every single day of the year, but rather just a week or two out of each season.

It still means one year has passed between the start of the game and the end of the game.

Yes that must have been it... I was on Mario Wiki and saw that it came out somewhere yesterday and I was wondering where. Kind of dissapoints me that it just has Mario Hoop's lineup with the addition of the Slime from Dragon Quest.

True... true. But since the game already came out, you would think that they would have most of the information by now.

Not necessarily. After all, it only came out yesterday.
Having guys that got 100% after one fricken' day is rare. Even more rare are those that take the time to write about it. In. The same. Fricken'. Day.

True True. But wait. Were all those characters playable from the start? I'm reffering to the ones that are listed on Mario Wiki right now. You know THE 19. Cause if they are playable from the start, then I guess more characters being in the game is a given.

I don't think the game(If it is Canon) plays out over an entire year, I actually find it more likely that the Crystal's, still adjusting to the new "plane", causing constant Weather disturbances in the Mushroom Kingdom. Just my thoughts.

Yeah, that makes more sense. Because it's strange that the weather corresponds to the crystal's powers. And I doubt Ninja, Black Mage and White Mage would have waited a whole year (the time it took Mario and co. to do these 4 tournaments, if my theory is wrong) to steal (or rather to take back) the crystals.
Oh, and the FF characters (+ Slime) are unlockables. So, the full character roster is already on Mario Wiki. But, hey, the fact there's a (small) story makes it interesting. Oh, and the musics are AWESOME too.

Ugh, does this need to be canon? Final Fantasy characters, Slime from Dragon Quest, and Mario characters? I really don't think we should consider this, or Mario Hoops 3-on-3, as canon whatsoever.
Side Note: Square, next time you make a Mario game, bring back Geno and/or Mallow, K?

In-story, Mario and co. go through the dimensional hole that links the Marioverse to the Finfal Fantasy universe (where you battle the final boss), so I don't see the problem here. And knowing that the FF universe is part of the greater Square-Enix universe, it's possible that a Slime accidentaly found himself in Final Fantasy 1's dimension, and ended being on the Starship.

Well, I guess I can't argue with that. Thanks for pointing that out, Koop.

Agghhh! Well, as most of you know, I believe the Nintendo Multiverse was created by a single, Supreme Being, but if I acknowledge the Square-Enix Multiverse' existence, then He would have made Him the creator of EVERY Video Game Universe subsequently! Curse you cross-company, cross-overs! I need time to think.

Well, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts had The Lord Of Games, who claimed to have created every video game ever made.
Yes, I know that it isn't part of Mario canon, I'm just throwing it out there.

Well okay, I suppose He created the entire Nintendo Multiverse(Ours Included), Metal Gear Universe, Sonic the Hedgehog Universe, Final Fantasy 1-3 Universe, and Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest IX Universe... Any and all other "Universes" do NOT exist!
