Random rant:
It's hard to find things on the Koopas in Arabic. Being able to read Arabic competently instead of sounding out every word carefully would help, yes, but my basic annoyance is that "Koopa" is spelled the same as "Cuba" and "copa" ("cup" in Spanish and Portuguese tournaments) in Arabic, and there are a lot more serious knowledge providers and soccer fans out there than Mario fans. (They're all spelled كوبا if you want to search yourself.)
Come to think of it, does anyone sell video games to the Middle East? I checked Nintendo's website, and they have regional sites for Japan (duh), Korea (which has loosened its laws against Japanese pop culture), Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, all the big EU countries, Russia, and Turkey, but no site for Israel or any Arab country. (Or India. Nintendo has a deal with a Chinese company to sell heavily locked-down consoles and games in China.) I know Middle Eastern languages are unusually hard to localize into, but surely there's a market among Arabs who want to play in their own language?

Yes, their Mii should appear when you check the friedn screen and it outright tells you that they accepted. If it just shows the name that you entered in and no Mii, then they haven't entered in your friend code.

So in other words this place will not get any new members ever? Cool, last time we got a new member he/she trolled in one topic and then died due to the forum's inactiveness. Mario sites in general that aren't Mariowiki don't seem to really be around either. It kind of sucks, but I guess Mario popularity isn't as high as it used to be. We just need a really good game to come and perhaps the fanbase will get a bit more attention. EDIT: Also, holy crap I was wondering if you got a new user title for reaching 2000, I guess I'm the first person here to actually do it  |

I typed in those exact words and got this forum as the top result. However, "Mariology" usually means study of the Virgin Mary, which might be a branding issue for us. |

Thinking of Mario, when we're in our little outpost here it can be hard to appreciate how universal Mario is.
I'm taking an introductory class on Java (the language), and the professor is from China. Several of the other students are from China, and one reads Russian. The week before last, as a review of conditionals, the professor started class with a picture of the SMAS Grass Land map, established that the entire class, without exception, recognized the picture and understood Mario's basic power-ups (although he used the SMB system), and asked the class to quickly write a program fragment expressing Mario's SMB power-up conditions in Java.

Wow.
That would NEVER happen here. Hell, every single person I've talked about Mario with or who was talking about Mario while I was around believes Wario is Mario's cousin/brother/alter-ego. Or that Luigi is called "Lwee guee". Or that "Browser" is a dinosaur.
Uh.
I got beaten and robbed on the way back home after taking a walk, yesterday. They stole my glasses.
I keep having traumatic flashbacks, it's god grrr annoying.

I'm sorry to hear that. You'll get over it, but it'll take some time.
(Also, I'm with an older crowd of people; my group for that exercise not only recognized "Mario" but correctly identified the game as SMB3 and discussed how to incorporate the Super Leaf and suits.)

Also, recently spent 3 hours writing a literaure analysis paper due at 6PM tonight; finished it with enough time to submit it at 5:59. I feel rather awesome right now.

My problem is that I can't focus on (less interesting) schoolwork and fall behind. Maybe set aside some time for nothing but homework every day?
On the other hand, I normally like reading nonfiction and even textbooks, so not sure what I can suggest. I'm old enough that I don't have to take classes I detest.
