My idea for a Mario 64 DS ideal remake from my own site. Now, this will have very little resemblance to Mario 64 left from all the additions, but still:
Characters:
Mario, Luigi, Wario, Yoshi (default)
Waluigi
Donkey Kong
Toad
Switches (effects in levels, Mario Advance 4 style):
FF Switch: Puts fire flowers in levels, different effects per character
Transform switch: New forms, Jet Wario, Superball Mario, Mr L, Yoshi with Mario World style fireballs
Game Boy Switch: Fire Flowers become Superball flowers, Feathers become vegetables for Mario to become Rabbit Mario from Mario Land 2
Warioware Switch: Makes Wario WarioWare styled. Becomes Warioman instead of Metal, Vampire Wario from Mushroom effect
Painting Effects Switch: From my site (link after this post), a list of effects per world:
1. Bob-omb Battlefield goes from war mode to peace mode depending on time. In war mode, water bombs fall from the sky like in star 1, cannons are out the ground and there are more bob-ombs. In peace mode, it's normal.
2. Whomp's Fortress- No effect.
3. Jolly Roger Bay- The ship sinks to the bottom if you enter the painting low, and that's it. If you enter high into the painting, the ship is afloat.
4. Snowman's Land is not affected.
5. Big Boo's Haunt is not affected.
6. Hazy Maze Cave is not affected.
7. Lethal Lava Land does a fiery cavern, and freezes when the painting goes blue for a short time. It's now lots of slippy ice and that deadly freezing water from Snowman's Land (the stuff with the same effect as lava). Also replaces flamethrowers with Mr Blizzards and Bullies with Spindrifts. Except the Big Bully. Those become Chill Bullies.
8. The Angry Sun takes to the sky when it appears in a painting in place of the blank wall. In this mode, you take damage from sunburn over time, like not having a hat in Super Mario Sunshine. Fire snakes and podoboos fall in some places and the oasis has vanished. The pyramid is the same as ever. Oh, and Metal Wario is NOT a good idea.
9. Dire Dire Docks has Wet-Dry World water rising. A bit. It has low water, like a canal lock at low jumps into the painting, and Bowser's submarine, if not gone already is underwater. At a high jump, the land is gone and it's just purely swimming.
10. Snowman's Land has a blizzard depending on height. Really low is clear conditions, aka normal. Medium has snowdrifts and a light falling ton of snow in clear flakes. High has a full blown blizzard, with limited visibility, thick snow on the ground in many places and more Mr Blizzards replace things like Goombas.
11. Wet-Dry World is not affected.
12. Tall Tall Mountain goes from mountain top mode to mountain base mode. In other words, if you enter when you see a mountain top, it's normal. When you see this forest by the base of a mountain, you end on ground level around the base of the mountain in a quaint forest type area with the two new stars, new coin locations and the red coins moved.
13. Tiny Huge Island is not affected.
14. Tick Tock Clock is not affected
15. Rainbow Ride is not affected.
Purple Coin Switch: Replaces red coins with 100 purple coins
Hat Switch: Toad always has hat when you lose it.
Vegetable Switch: Puts SMB 2 vegetables in levels
Coin Throw Switch: Allows you to throw blue coins like in Wario Land 1
Colour Code Shell Switch: Makes different coloured Koopa shells. Red ones home in on enemies, Blue Shells home in and explode, Yellow Shells act like in Mario World, Black Shells go straight and explode, Gold Shell creates a beam of light underwater that can kill ghosts.
Enemy Difficulty Switch: Replaces enemies with harder versions
There are new levels. One is based on Subcon, one based on the Wild West...
One's in space, with Fawful, Shroobs and X Nauts.
One's a 3D version of Bowser's Castle, with the Koopalings, Kamek, Boom Boom, Reznor and airships!
A factory level with Smithy as a boss. And Cuckoo Condor. And Mad Jack from Donkey Kong 64.
One's a mirror of Peach's Castle, with dark heroes as the enemies.
There's a level based on Isle Delfino, with Petey Piranha, Gooper Blooper, and Cractus from Wario Land 4.
And a level based on Diamond City, with WarioWare characters, Captain Syrup, Rudy and the Black Jewel.
There are some character unlock levels where you have to face King K Rool, Wart and a boss version of a Blargg.
Other minor levels including a ship fight with the spiked Koopa from Wario Land 1, a ghost ship, a Yoshi's Story themed level with Kamek, a level based on the Storm Drain from Sunshine, etc.
There's also a new final Bowser level, with normal SMB 1 Bowser, Dry Bowser, Super Mario World Clown Car Bowser, Yoshi's Island Bowser and some massive, Galaxy 2 like version of Bowser. In a row.
I had also thought of four and eight player co op, a mode where you could control enemies from the game, and a level with the Sky and Marine Pop (plane and submarine) from Super Mario Land.
And a Mario vs Donkey Kong March of the Minis styled level.
An electric themed level.
As well as a Hailfire Peaks styled level with temperature changes, aka you solve puzzles or something.
A level based on the SMB 3 battleship level, which is both a seven star level and a Bowser challenge level.
There would be a level with a hypnotised Waluigi as a boss.
As well as a level where you're chased by a Spindel throughout the whole thing (insta kill from Galaxy 2 version?), and a desert level with a Dry Bones theme.
Princess Daisy as playable, with Huff N Puff from Paper Mario the boss to beat to unlock her. Her special ability is like Drill Mario from Galaxy 2 or something.
To add to the above, there would be a boss which is like, an army of those Stretch enemies from Super Mario Bros 3.
And a time warp switch which changes the appearance and content of the first three character unlock levels.
Blooper as a playable character apparently.
Eely Mouth from Sunshine as a boss.
A zeppelin/airship gauntlet level where you have to beat all the enemies.
Gigyas from Earthbound as a boss or something. Yes, the original idea went a bit far from Mario feasibility.
Poison Mushrooms as possible to find in normal levels.
A Paper Mario switch which allows you to make the characters and setting look like paper.
Diddy Kong as playable with Kaptain K Rool as a boss. Same guy as King K Rool, but he fights you in two different levels.
Bowser Jr as a boss in a level.
A level based on Bowser's Dark Matter Plant from Galaxy 1.
A mad science laboratory level with Baron K Roolenstein, Swiggler and the professor guy from Wario Land 3 as bosses.
An ego like level with Dr Mario as a boss for some weird reason.
New enemies:
Klaptraps
Kremlings
Blarggs
Hot Lips
Hot Foot
Giant Blargg
Guillotine Swords
Shy Guys
Tweeters
Hoopsters
Flurries
Autobombs
Ostros
Cobrats
Pidgets
Beezos
Bandits
Torpedo Teds
Angry Sun
Shroobs
Yuxes
X Nauts
Angry Stars
Bloopers
Magikoopas
Bob-ulks
Banzai Bills
Spikes
Spear Guys
Mecha Koopa
Scientist robots
Buzz
Mecha Chomp
Eeker
Virus (Doctor Mario)
As you may have realised, this would be less 'Mario 64 remake' and more 'Mario 64 complete overhaul with massive amounts of new content and the number one game for Mario fans status'.
Someone back in the original topic I made even suggested Link from the Legend of Zelda as playable. I didn't go that far, but I have a feeling this would utterly kill Nntendo canon dead in every conceivable way.
Way, way, way (infinite chain) too good to be true? Sadly, I doubt Nintendo would take something this overly complex and even consider it, purely because it'd make the next Mario game a hard sell.
