What are your thoughts on this? I personally dislike it for being completely counter to the games, and for being live action, but I still think they could have done worse, and some changes like that of Bowser as human were pretty much not completely awful decisions considering the medium.
On that note, what are your opinions on the other Mario adaptations? The anime series? Super Show? Saturday Supercade or whatever it was called? Ice Capades? The Mario comics? The books? The horror of King Koopa's Kool Kartoons?

For me, the movie was more like a movie full of Mario references than an adaptation of the series. :/ I liked it.
Everything else can go burn in the Underwhere. The cartoons, the anime (which wasn't a series by the way), everything. The Super Mario-kun manga is disturbing.
...well, everything but the Super Mario Adventures comic.

Mario-wise, it was a terrible movie. I won't deny that. But I kind liked it as just a regular movie. Post-apocalyptic Manhattan and dinosaurs are always a win in my book. What are your thoughts on this? I personally dislike it for being completely counter to the games, and for being live action Wanna hear a little know fact? There first graph script was very much like the games. (here's a link to it: www.smbmovie.com/SMBArchive/specials/script.htm ) I like it better than the final movie, but my only complaint is that Mario comes off as sort of a jerk. Let's see, the other adaptations? The cartoons were fairly awful and kinda hard to watch (especially super show) The Valient comics were pretty bad too. The choose-your own adventure books were cool. I like how they stayed fairly close to the games. My personal favorite though is the Super Mario Adventures comic. I like the art style, and the story and characters were very believable as far as Mario goes. I like the art style of the Super Mario Kun comics (what? it's cute!) But the few translated comics I've read were really stupid. I'm not even going to acknowledge the existence of ice-capades and the King Koopa Kartoons series, on account of the fact that they shouldn't exist in the first place D: (although I would LOVE to own one of those troopa hats the kids were wearing)

Yes, that link works much better. It wasn't the worst movie in the world, but it wasn't the best, either. Mario-wise, it sucked. But it was watchable, at least.
As forthe cartoons, the only good part of any of them was the SMW episode "Mama Luigi". And not just for the meme, itwas seriously a good episode to watch.

I rather like the SMB Movie. Still feel it could've worked as an original property, but that's why I made up my own.
The Mario cartoons I found really painful to sit through. The animation quality is abysmal and the jokes are cringe-worthy.
The Mario anime movie isn't so bad, but I think part of it stems from not being able to understand the characters. It's a very interesting watch when you take into account that it features the debut of a lot of recurring concepts and motifs in Mario (such as Peach's design or Bowser being immature).
The Super Mario Adventures comic was great. As was the Mario vs. Wario comics that came after. I'm almost inclined to canonize it were it not for the fact that they blatantly contradict what happened in-game.
Can't say I've seen or read any of the other stuff in the first post though, so I can't really judge.

The only good part of the cartoons was when Luigi faked to be pregnant only so that he wouldn't have to go through a piranha-infested lake (or something like this). That's the only moment of the cartoon trilogy I liked, and it lasted ten seconds. I didn't even know there were other jokes. Really, the cartoon was horrible. It's not like I regreat buying the whole series, but I won't ever watch it again.
I think we can all accept that the Super Mario Adventures (and Mario vs. Wario) is a perfect exemple of what a Mario media outside of the games should be.

Nope, I don't accept that! I hated Super Mario Adventure, and in Mario vs. Wario, Mario is a freaking jerk.

Nope, I don't accept that! I hated Super Mario Adventure, and in Mario vs. Wario, Mario is a freaking jerk. Which one? There were two seperate M vs. W if I recall. One was about the events of SML2. Mario didn't seem like a jerk in that one, he just seemed oblivious to the fact that everyone was trying to kill him. The other one about Peach's birthday did portray him as kind of a jerk. First he tries to swap Wario's present with his own and then ends up getting into a fist fight with him in the middle of the party.

Super Mario Adventures, Super Mario Kun, and Super Mario Bros.:The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach(I think it's called that) were awesome(even though I didn't much care for tGMtRPP's ending). The Movie was okay, like I said before, it sucked Mario-wise, but I can't help feel Nostalgic whenever I watch it. I've actually memorized the entire film. I know, I have no life.
