Yeah, me neither, but I think a Super Paper Mario style game would be better suited to the 3DS' Special Effects!

Sadly, almost everyone hated Super Paper Mario's style. Plus the big(-ish) change in SPM was to keep the series fresh. It was clearly not to be kept for future installements.
I agree, though.

In my Personal Opinion, this is the Order all Mario RPGs from Greatest to Least: -Super Mario RPG(SNES) -Mario & Luigi:Partners in Time(DS) -Mario & Luigi:Bowsers' Inside Story(DS) -Mario & Luigi:Superstar Saga(GBA) -Super Paper Mario(Wii) -Paper Mario(N64) -Paper Mario:The Thousand Year Door(GCN)
Please don't kill me for thinking SPM was the best Paper Mario game, I'm not saying the other ones are bad, I mean, they're some truly Great Games! I just like SPM a little more.

That's nearly the opposite of my list. I personally think the PM2 is the best RPG and one of the top Mario games as well. The first Paper Mario and the M&L series are in the middle SPM wasn't really that good but I seem to be the only person who doesn't like SMRPG. I don't know... there's just something about it that didn't seem to fit the classic Mario style.

I don't know why but ever since I first played SMRPG(On VC) I fell in love with the Game, I just felt it was more Creative than the Paper Mario games(Don't Kill me)! Oh well, to Each his/her Own!

I know for a fact that they crammed so many more secrets, sidequests, hidden items, and the like into SMRPG than the other six games combined.
Wait, what? Come again? Oh my list... Ahem:
1. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (Excellently revamped game designs, buttox-kickin' soundtrack, and gameplay that I fell in love with the first day I picked up the controller.)
2. M&L: Bowser's Inside Story (I found myself laughing at this game's writing much more than the other two, I'll tell you that.)
3. Super Mario RPG (So much content that I can't even begin to list off, all crammed into one game.)
4. M&L: Partners in Time (Baby Mario & Baby Luigi. Just sayin'.)
5. Paper Mario (By default.)
6. M&L: Superstar Saga (It would be higher up on the list if not for the existance of Bowser's Inside Story.)
7. Super Paper Mario (Don't shoot! I'm just a casual gamer!)

Any game with sakuras is an instant epic win. Paper Mario 4 looks interesting too.

Personally, I've only played one of the Paper Mario games (although I did play all the Mario and Luigi games to level 99 for all characters), and I thought Thousand Year Door was a great game, and definitely seemed more interesting than the original.
I'd probably rank the RPGs I played in this order:
1. Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story
Playing as Bowser helped, the giant battles just cemented it's place as awesome.
2. Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga
It was awesome! Non linear! But had Joke's End music, so it loses a place for driving me to insanity.
Above: Great for interrogation.
3. Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door
I still prefer the Mario and Luigi battle system. No offence, it feels more like Mario than hitting A or B at the right timing to defend or whatever to instead smash your enemy's head in with a hammer or jump on them.
4. Mario and Luigi Partners in Time
Short. Linear. But did great for showing the following people a few things:
A Those who thought Mario games were a utopia
B Those who thought recent Mario games were a utopia.
C Those who like to say how their 'macho' crap games are apparently so much cooler/edgier/darker than the Mario series.
Yeah, show them the Hollijolli Village theme (and maybe the relevant part of the walkthrough on Youtube) and watch them quickly shut up.
But am I the only one who thought Donkey Kong Country Returns was this year's E3 highlight? I liked Skyward Sword, the 3DS, Kid Icarus, Paper Mario, Mario Kart, etc, but something about a long lost series returning about 10 years later is better than them all. And no offence, Mario Sports Mix seems like the most uninspired Mario game yet.

The way it's the first game where you can play as both Peach and Bowser? The fact that it introduces the most awesome character, Geno, who Nintendo is doing a grave injustice to by only allowing him one cameo in Superstar Saga? It had beautiful graphics (model-wise) but the N64 came out around the same time so it shouldn't have been praised for long. You can play as Peach and Bowser in Super Mario Kart. And now recent Mario games always have Peach and Bowser playable anyway. It was a wonderful game at the time but it isn't anymore. It's like saying SMB is better than NSMBW. Geno isn't a good character. At all. It's your basic "epic and cool guy with a gun who doesn't afraid of anything, oh and he makes 9999 damages and shoots bullets and is cool and all" character. Mario characters are rarely that cliché - you have the hero being a midget plumber, the bad guy being a childish idiot, the damsel-in-distress wanting to be part of the adventure... Plus characters like Geno don't fit with the usual Mario universe (a.k.a. where everyone is lacking mental stability). He's too serious.

@cheat-master: No, you're not the only one. I feel DKC Returns was the best as well (Don't worry, I still like the look of PM3DS)
And I agree Koop, I never liked Geno much either.

All I'm saying is, for being the very first Mario RPG, they did a very good job with it. I can agree that it's not the best, but it's certainly not the worst.
And when I said, "First time playable", I meant it was the first time when they all worked together to try and save the world. I mean, the hero, damsel-in-distress, and villain all fighting to take down a common enemy? That's pretty original.
Even if Geno's ultra-serious personality may be unoriginal, just think about what else the game has to offer. A wise frog guru, a Pikmin ninja-master, a cloudy coup d'etat with a little plot-twist to season, and a dragon the reminds me of both a Blaarg and Hooktail.
All in all, while I disagree with your opinion, I will crack your skull for saying ill of Geno respect it.

SMRPG:
Lame Graphics? Oh, you mean those Revolutionary 16-bit Graphics? Yeah, those where pretty Lame![/Sarcasm] In all seriousness, I grew more attached to Geno & Mallow than ANY "Partner" Nintendo has Produced(Except for maybe Goombella)! And the Characters you encounter in SMRPG are WAY cooler than any other Mario RPG Character(Albeit Fawful, of Course)! I mean, Booster, that Shark Dude, the Axem Rangers, Exor, King Nimbus, Smithy, etc., are way cooler than, say, the X-Nauts, or Count Bleck! And Paper Mario's Story is (No offence) Rehashed from RPG! I mean, like Twilight Princess is a Rehash of Ocarina(You know it's True)! Don't get me Wrong, I mean no Disrespect to PM, it's a truly Amazing Game, but RPG is Better. Period.

On Topic: I'm excited to see a New Donkey Kong game, even though I never "Loved" DKC, Returns looks to change that! I'm also pumped for GoldenEye 007, Wii Party(Maybe it can make up for the low Quality of Post-Mario Party 4 party Games), Mario Sports Mix(Just for the Dodgeball), Metroid:Other M(Already got it Pre-ordered), The Conduit 2, Sonic Colors(I know I,m going to regret this One), The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and every single Game for 3DS!!! Actually, I think I listed everything! Oh well!
