I dunno, the paintings seem more sophisticated. Maybe there is a certain substance in the Marioverse that causes paint to become transversal (that is, able to teleport things).

But not all of the paintings were transversal (like the Bowser painting at the end of the game)

They wouldn't have to be; it would simply be an option. Like a paste that one smears on a completed image to cause it to become a portal (for example).

Well Bowser, being the most cocky koopa ever, would create a portal so that he could presonally kill Mario.
I think it is the paint that creates the things; spreading some substance over a painting wouldn't work.

actually your whole body would get hit (hmph that gives me a great idea! In the next Mario game, I'll add a fly-swatter near a fake painting)

I think Bob-Omb Battlefield is a real battlefield somewhere either in the Mushroom Kingdom or Koopa Kingdom and like with all the paintings, they act like warp pipes.
The battlefield itself is probably some sort of warzone where the Koopas have fought against the Mushroom Kingdom.

I don't think the Bob-omb Buddies are part of the Mushroom Kingdom, they are just independent forces that don't like the Koopa Troop. Do you know how easily the MK could overthrow Bowser if they had Bob-Omb Buddy technology?
