For a start, I'd like to say that their wings don't appear to be connected to anything inside their shells, because when you make them fall off, there are no shell holes.

I think there wing my have something to do with the P-wing power up. Wasn't that the symbol on paratroopas tennis racket in the first Mario tennis?

dunno never played it but any thing with the para- prefix in the mario world is an enemy that uses magic to keep its wings or something

I just realised they can't be natural cus they can get knocked off and stuff.
But mabey there are some that are natural ( mostly the postal ones ) and the rest are magically added.

Well there should be some naturales but the majority is altered.

Yeah. There wasn't enough for Bowser's purposes, so his Magikoopas (instead of telling him a Paratroopa army was impossible) created a bunch. Could be the same for Paragoombas.
