Didn't Beldam say something about being the Shadow Queens loyal servants just before the final battle?
And about Vivian being good, demon is really just a title just like person or koopa. It really dosn't affect how one acts. Most demons are evil, but I'm sure they aren't all bad. Also perhaps the Shadow Queen created the sirens to be her servant, so the always looked like that, whereas the Shadow Queen her self is just the spirt of her former body.

They don't really look like humans, but who knows. I'd like to think they're creations of the spirit of the Shadow Queen, as Pdoogan said. The Shadow Queen could definitely be a former human, though.

Here's one thing we have to clear up: They are all physical for sure. If not, how could they be hit by attacks.
And another thing: I know the Queen could bring total darkness to the world, but there were FOUR heroes, not one originally and they could not defeat her. She must have been infinitely strong when she existed in her living form.

I'd say that the Shadow Sirens can shift between being a shadow and being solid. If they were a shadow all of the time, then they wouldn't be able to hit anyone either, similar to Boos (which is why Vivian feels like a Bow rehash to me, at least)
And I'm sure Mario would be stronger than all of them, especially since he has the wishes of the whole world on his side.

The thing that sucks (although it would make the game too easy) is that Mario never gets any wishes until he is in the middle of nowhere fighting the final boss

I wouldn't say that. Peach doesn't have that kind of influence. It was the Crystal Stars/Star Spirits...you can even see the Crystal Stars leave and the people say stuff like "Oh this Crystal Star is here, so Mario must need our help."
