I'd say a sub-breed of Pirahna Plants.

the ones from YI and YS are called nippers

Nippers are generated by Naval Piranha, so I'm betting they're the seedling stage of Piranha Plants.

So if they're the seedling form of Pirahna Plants then how do they end up in the warp pipes?

Some of the seeds could descend, or even be shot, into a (the) pipe. Or, they could jump inside of one of their own accord, the ones in YI and YS moved freely.

Yup. They apparently can move independantly, so perhaps tehy would just hop into a warp pipe and root themselves in.

They seem better off walking then staying in a pipe all day

*shrug* Maybe they're only born with a set amount of nutrients in their bodies, so they have to walk until they find a suitable spot and then root themselves into the ground to continue living.

This brings up another question, How do they gather nutrients from a pipe?

Maybe it has something to do with the trasportive properties of the pipe itself. Some form of conductive energy that seems attractive to the plant? I don't know.

Maybe the plant's roots burrow through the pipe and into the ground beyond.

maybe they dont like sunlight cause it creates heat they do only die when hit by a fire ball. And maybe they're not sub-species maybe the people who live in those places name them differently popopo.

Pipe Land is obviously a dry sunny area so the pipes create condesation. Kinda like the condensation farms on tatooine in star wars.
They don't like fireballs cus they're plants.

You have to remember that even though piranha plants are plants, they're also carnivorous. Why else would they have a mouth to begin with? they may start out relying on sunlight but flesh seem to be part of there diet too. A pipe would be a perfect place to wait for unsuspecting prey to jump in and get eaten.

I think you guys are mixing up munchers with nippers, munchers cannot be hurt by anyting at all except for the P-switch which transforms them into coins

I seem to remember Nippers in Yoshi's Story coming from spiked balls falling from the cave ceiling.
