It's official; pikmin are part of the Marioverse. If you play Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour and play a level with a flower bed in it, you can hit the golf ball into the flowers and a bunch of pikmin will jump out.
So what do you think? Was the planet that Captain Olimar landed on actually Mario's home planet? Or did the pikmin get there by other means?

Well, it could just be a cameo, but that's the cheap way out.
It's quite possible that Olimar was on Mario's planet. Or maybe it was an alternate dimension of some sort, because I don't think the straight answer makes much sense. The alternate dimension could have a pipe connecting it with the normal one, meaning the Pikmin got here from there.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that "Olimar" is an anagram of "Mario" with an "L" in it...

I've never played Pikmin so unless it shows stuff about the planet I'd have to say yes.

I think the planet of the Pikmin was meant to be our Earth--look at the many everyday items that bear the logos of Earth companies in Pikmin 2. So I'm thinking that some Pikmin found their way through a dimensional portal and started settling on Mushroom Earth.

I don't think they really are a part of the ME. I reckon they're just a cameo.

I think they might have landed on Mushroom Earth from another planet. Or maby they were created on Mushroom Earth and went to other planets.

But if the planet that the pikmin are on in the pikmin games was earth, then why were all those strange creatures around. Alot of them were larger than batteries, we would have noticed them. I'm talking about creatures seen above ground like the preying crysanthimum and cannon beatle and canon beattle larva. I guess it could be earth in the future, or perhaps some parralel earth whose inhabitants happen to have the same brands as us......

Perhaps after some big catastrophy. That's why there dosn't seem to be any large organisms around, and the only things from humans that survived where small peices of garbage and stuff. Lol. Did anyone else see that show called "The Future is Wild"? maby it's like in the timeframe right afther that catastrophy. Or it could just be some remote place or something. But it would have to have been in some kind of contact, even if indirect, with humans to have all that human made stuff..

FUN FACT: excluding the creatures, the areas in Pikmin and Pikmin 2 are replicas of Shigeru Miyamoto's garden.

Now that Brawl's out and I've actually gotten to see some Pikmin-related stuff (the games themselves are essentially nonexistant around here), I have a new theory. Maybe Pikmin and Mario are in the same universe, and the reason they're seen on the golf course is because an Onion or three landed around there. (Onions were seen in space in the best ending of Pikmin 1.)

No, the games have several indications that they take place on Earth. You find globes of the Earth. Several name-brands appear in Pikmin 2. In many of his journals, Olimar talks about giant extinct animals (This may not seem like much, but trust me, if you read them, it's clear he's talking about humans), etc.
