Once again, the title says it all. If they were to make a new Mario game for Gamecube, Revolution, DS or any other system, what would you want it to have?
I for one would like a more storyline driven platformer. Something akin to Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, only much more involved.
Seperate storylines for the different characters, ala Sonic Adventure. They should also criss-cross with each other through out the game.
Two words, nonlinear storyline. There should be optional sidequests you can complete in order to gain certain items and/or unlock certain special areas. Plus the ending would be different, depending on which quests you completed.
Two player co-op is a must. Just imagine having both Mario and Luigi running around those huge levels, each accomplishing different tasks or teaming up to complete a single one. You could even double team the enemies and bosses ^_^.
The incorporation of bros moves, like in M&L, only in real time. Like if Luigi does his backflip/spin-jump like in SM64DS, Mario could jump up and grab hold of his legs allowing them both to glide around. Stuff like that.
Having a sky level where you get to fly the Skypop, once again ala Sonic Adventure. Like, maybe Bowser will have rebuilt the Koopa Cruiser and you have to use the Skypop to get to it while it's in the air.
Having Yoshi be rideable again, like in Mario Sunshine. Only get rid of the whole lame fruitjuice idea. Bring back the original four Yoshi colors and their powers. But keep the auto-aiming tongue, the ability to hover, and the ability to throw eggs like in SM64DS.
The ability to gain certain permanent powerups, like special gloves or shoes that do more damage when you punch or kick. Or clothes that would build up your defense so you take less damage from attacks.
ITEMS!! You have no idea how long I've wanted a Mario platformer that let you use items like the sidescrollers. They should give you weapons too. Not like guns or anything, but stuff like Fireflowers or the Cape. Items that let you attack like you could in the classic games. And they should finally let Mario use his hammer outside of an RPG!
Koopa Troopas that actually attack you, as opposed to the little wussy Koopas they had in SM64.
An inventory, where you could collect certain items like Super Mushrooms and Fireflowers. And you'd be able to switch weapons, like choosing to use either your fists or your hammer.
I want the Koopa Kids to come back. It would be so great to fight them all in a 3D environment, like the Bowser fights in SM64. Morton Koopa Jr could send out shockwaves when he jumps, Wendy O. Koopa could shoot magic rings that would home in on you, Ludwig would periodically duck into his shell and go speeding around the arena. Stuff like that.
So think about it: You've just completed a sidequest with the help of Luigi that unlocked a secret area for you. You go into the area, which turns out to be a cave, and have to fight off a few Koopa Troopas (maybe even some Paratroopas). So you and Luigi mop the floor with the Koopas and proceed into the cave, grabbing a Fireflower on the way, which replaces your standard punch/kick attack with the ability to throw powerful Fireballs. Luigi, on the other hand, manages to find a Yoshi egg and jumps onto the dino's back. So you both continue into the cave until you come to a wide-open space. But what's this? The passages have slammed shut behind you! And out comes a mini-boss, which the two of promptly team up on. The combined efforts of both the bros bring the thing down pretty quickly, and what does he leave behind? It's a Hammer upgrade! Now, whenever you use your hammer it will deal more damage to your enemies.
Anyway, that's my dream of a Mario game. Some might say that it sounds too much like a Zelda title, but who cares? I liked Zelda. ^_^
