I dont think there diferent breeds,bowser just got the goombas to work out in SMW so they wouldnt be squashed so easaly.(looking like berries is just a side effect)

Mabye the SMW goombas are tougher since they live out in the wilderness in the middle of nowhere.

Arn't fungi just plants from the decomposer group. Isn't that group completely made up of fungi or are there other kinds of decomposers? I always wondered about that. Also, I've never really seen any of the mushroom creatures in Mario games like toads and goombas decompose anything....

I think they've evolved beyond that at this point, considering they have mouths. Although they probably evoled from mushrooms it dosen't seem like they share much in common with them anymore, besides shape.

Ok. That makes sense. But what about the fugi plant relationship? I realize that it might have more to do with real life than Mushroom kindom life. Or maby not since Mushrooms are so important and numerous in the Mushroom Kindom, but I was just wondering if anyone knew...

In SMRPG there is a type of mushroom enemy,I can't recall it's name thoue, I know it begins with an A.

I think you might be thinking of the Amanita. Popular mushroom in fairytales and video games, particularly Mario video games. So manny things in the games resemble them. The musroom power ups, piranah plants, them giant mushrooms, :/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanita_muscaria
